We move people.

Innovative in our approach. Our business is driven by ideas. It is only with new ideas thatwe are able to meet the challenges presented by the mobility demands of the future. We feel

as much commitment to protecting the climate and the environment as we do to the safety ofour vehicles. Every year, we launch new vehicle models that demonstrate our innovative capa-bility as we progress toward accident-free and emission-free driving. As far as active safety isconcerned, we are developing a number of systems based on c ameras and radar, for example. To help protect the environment, Daimler has for years been systematically investing in thedevelopment of alternative drive systems. As a result, Daimler offers not only hybrid vehiclesbut also the largest range of local zero- emission electric vehicles powered by batteries andfuel cells. We just love to keep on raising the bar. For example, the new climatic wind tunnelsat the Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre in Sindelfingen set global standards for envir onmen-tally friendly, efficient development of vehicles.

Leading the way in what we fashion. We are one of the worlds leading automotive com-panies. It is with passion that we create sustainable solutions for the mobility of today andtomorrow. Our aim is to produce safe, comf ortable, efficient vehicles that become moreeconomical and more environmentally friendly from generation to generation. Daimler is abyword for strong brands and innovative products. We focus on w hat we do best, which is tobuild premium passenger cars and high-quality trucks, vans and buses with maximum uservalue, and to offer tailored services related to these products. It is becoming increasinglyimportant to have local production facilities, and we are targeting investment in local mar-kets and new production capacity to enable us to meet the global demand. On the sales side,we always get as close to the customer as we possibly can. Since 2011, for example, Chinasautomobile enthusiasts have been able to experience the magic of Mercedes up close in ournewly opened Mercedes-Benz Centre in Beijing one of the largest Mercedes-Benz flagshipshowrooms in Asia.

Global in how we act. We help to generate global growth. We enjoy success throughout theworld the fruit of good ideas and our ability to produce new, improved solutions, time andtime again. Our brands transport people and goods right around the globe. As Daimler growsto meet the challenges, its performance data grows too, both in its core markets of Europeand the USA, as well as in the emerging markets. This is supported by new brands and prod-ucts, not to mention development and production networks. Within an incredibly short time, the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russi a, India and China) have become the engines of growth for theworlds automotive industry. The passenger car markets in these four countries will soon bein the global top ten. Demand for mid-sized and heavy goods vehicles is also likely to soar inthe medium term. All this makes us ex tremely happy, because we still have plenty of i deas.

We are pioneers in the construction of

automobiles, and we see it as both an

incentive and an obligation to repeat-

edly put our innovative capabilities tothe test in a quest for groundbreaking

    technologies and products that are

    second to none.

The first motor car,the first productionautomobile with a diesel engine, the firstsafety body ever these and many othermilestones demonstrate our contribu-tion to shaping the mobility of the future.Nowadays, however, our innovative driveis not focused directly on our vehicle s.We also work on solutions, so that wecan continue to enhance the safety andefficiency of our vehicles. Sustainable

mobility is a common thread in every-thing that we think and do.

A current exampleis the climatic wind

tunnel facility at the Mercedes-Benz Tech-

nology Centre in Sindelfingen. This facility

    recreates extreme weather conditions

inside and enables us to develop new

    vehicles and components efficiently and

    in an environmentally friendly manner.

It is not possible to eliminate road testing,

but it can be significantly reduced. This

capital investment is helping to shorten

the development process before our prod-

ucts can be put on the road. This is also

an innovation that illustrates the differ-

ence between Daimler and many others:

    precision forward thinking.

The extent of this for ward thinking

is impressively demonstrated by theMercedes-Benz S 500 Intelligent Drivein particular: this research vehicle withautopilot is able to autonomously mergeinto flowing traffic, safely cross junctionsand also detect obstacles. The innova-tive concept vehicle was unveiled atthe 2013 Frankfurt International MotorShow. Just a few weeks previously, the vehicle with near production levelequipment had completed the historicBertha-Benz route from Mannheim toPforzheim, covering over 100 kilometresthrough 24 towns and villages. Whatsmore, it did this autonomously.

    Talking point:innovation in mobility.

    We invented the car:

now we are shaping its future.

    We are pioneers.

For more than 128 years we have been a driving force in the development of all kinds of road transport, because we invented the automobile. We have been responsible for a huge range of innovations involvingpersonal mobility in passenger cars, local and long-distance public transport and the transporting of goodsin commercial vehicles. This experience gives us an advantage that we are exploiting to ensure that thismobility continues to be sustained into the future.

Driving without taking to the road: the Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre is home to the most advanceddriving simulator in the automotive industry. Its 360-degree screen, fast electric drive system and 12-metrerail for movement provide optimal conditions for testing components for future models in all phases ofdevelopment. Tests with volunteer drivers allow ordinary road users to push vehicle handling to the limit

without any risk to themselves, providing engineers with information on the acceptability and handling ofnew safety systems. Equally impressive is that a part of the energy required to drive the simulator is recoveredthrough regenerative braking and fed into the power grid.

    We never stop thinking.

Clean mobility.Daimler is on the road to creating emission-free driving. Our objective is toachieve significant reductions in fuel consumption and emissions by our vehicles even by the

vehicles we are producing now and avoid such consumption and emissions altogether in thelong term. There is no silver bullet. Therefore, we are developing a broad range of cutting-edgedrive technologies that meet the specific mobility requirements, both now and in the future, for all types of road transport. To this end, Daimler has set out an environmental roadmap. Thefirst priority is to continue optimising energy efficiency i n vehicles with internal combustionengines. Even in the future, these vehicles will form the backbone for mobility. The second pri -ority is to focus on needs-based hybridisation, i.e. combining internal combustion engines andelectric motors in the most efficient way possible. Thirdly, and finally, there is zero emissions, maximum emotion our programme to achieve zero-emission driving with electric vehiclespowered by batteries and fuel cells. Electric vehicles f rom Daimler are not only particularlyclean and quiet when on the road, they are also extremely enjoyable to drive.

Safe mobility.Billions of people around the world are involved in traf fic journeys every day.Our aim is to make the mobility of the future as safe as possible for every single person. Weare pioneers in road safety and are pursuing our vision with our Road to accident-free drivinginitiative. Daimler engineers have frequently been ahead of their time in the developmentof vehicle safety. Our most important aim is to prevent accidents happening in the first place. Our integral safety concept is geared to real traffic and accident circumstances. The corner-stones of our Road to accident-free driving initiative are to banish driver stress, activelysupport the driver in difficult situations and provide optimum protection for all road users. The individual vehicle safety components in our passenger cars and trucks are coordinatedand interconnected.

Connected mobility. Population growth, the increasing density of population within limitedgeographical areas and a simultaneous rise in the requirement for mobility are creating ademand for innovative mobility solutions that are environmentally c ompatible, economicand socially acceptable. This requires the provision of intelligent mobility for people andurban areas. The starting points for Daimler are a systematic expansion of infrastructure andweb-based carpooling communities. Daimler is investing heavily in networked mobility. Oneexample is moovel. This mobility platform shows its users how they can best get from A to B.The moovel system bundles the services from a variety of private- and public-sector mobilityproviders and presents suitable travel options via app or mobile webpage. And with the mobil-ity concept car2go, Daimler provides more than 10,000 vehicles that can be rented on thespot around the clock in Europe and North America.

    Talking point:clean driving.

Daimler is on the road to creating

    emission-free driving. The key to

    environmentally friendly mobility is

    an intelligent combination of drives.

The biggest lever for reducing fuel

    consumption and emissions is the

energy-efficient internal combus-tion engine. Such engines will continueto form the backbone of our mobilitysystems for many years to come. In thecase of diesel engines, Daimlers rangeincludes a clean technology in the formof BLUETEC. In addition to cutting harm-ful emissions, BLUETEC also reducesfuel consumption, and this reductionmay be by up to 2,000 litres a year for atruck. Petrol engines as economical as

diesel engines are what you can expectfrom the new BlueDIRECT generationof engines with six and eight cylinders. The advance in technology is that, whileperformance and torque are increased, fuel consumption is reduced by up toone quarter.

A milestone on the road to furtherefficiency enhancements is needs-

based hybridisation.Daimler hasdeveloped a modular hybrid systemkit for passenger cars and commercialvehicles. This allows Daimler to produceall the variants of a hybrid drive: fr omdrives known as a mild hybrid to dri vesthat are totally electric. A further optionis the plug-in hybrid, in which the battery

can be charged from a socket in order toincrease the vehicles electrical range.Daimler is the global market leader forhybrid drives in commercial vehicles.

    The third development priority is

    local zero-emission driving with elec-

tric vehicles. A large number of electricvehicles are already proving themselveson the road; two examples being thesmart fortwo electric drive and the newB-Class Electric Drive. As the Mercedesof electric vehicles in the compact class, they set high standards in terms ofcomfort, quality and safety for up to fivepeople. The B-Class Electric Drive willinitially be launched in the USA in 2014.

    Sustainable mobility at Daimler:

no less than three clean drive options

    We have an environmental roadmap.

Our objective is to secure sustainable mobility over the long term. We aim to be a leader in greentechnologies without neglecting typical Mercedes-Benz virtues such as safety, comfort and sublime drivingpleasure. We are bringing together different vehicle strategies with tailor-made drive solutions in accordancewith our environmental roadmap.

The more intelligent the better:the quality and advances in our internal combustion engines will be criticalin determining how efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles will actually be in the next 20 years. In themedium term, diesel and petroleum with or without hybrid options will continue to be used as sources offuel for automobiles. For this reason, we are continuously improving these engines.

We are working on the best mix of drive systems.

The future is diversity: our product mix with different drive combinations offers customer-friendly andenvironmentally friendly mobility solutions for every requirement. We set the standards in safety.

The number of vehicles is increasing, presenting a challenge for road safety. We see this as aholistic responsibility covering everything from road safety education for small children, to activeand passive safety systems, and manuals emergency services. Incidentally, the rescue cards forour vehicles can now be called up using the QR code on the fuel cap or the B-pillar.

    Talking point:innovative safety.

From crumple zone to proactive assistants:

    innovations from the safety pioneerWe do not simply construct vehicles;

we also work continuously to refine

    and improve vehicle safety systems.

This is guided by our integral safetyphilosophy, in which our objective is

to protect and support road users in

    all situations.

We aim to banish driver stress. Intel-ligent systems support the driver in thedriving tasks and act as an extension oftheir senses. At the Mind Lab researchlaboratory, scientists investigate driverbehaviour patterns in order to developfurther improvements in assist systems. This led, for example, to the introduc-tion of the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsi-ness warning system in passenger cars,

which identifies the first indicationsof drowsiness and is able to warn thedriver in good time.

How can the vehicle be used toactively cope with difficult situations?

Assist systems are able to identify hazard-

ous situations at an early stage and inform

the driver accordingly. However, theycan also intervene in a support capacityto help avoid accidents or mitigate theconsequences. The vehicle becomes aproactive partner. We are working hardto ensure that, in the future, radar andcamera systems will be in a position tospot pedestrians, cyclists or other vehi-cles, predict their likely behaviour anddirection, and initiate appropriate action.

Ultimately, it is our responsibility toprovide optimum protection for road

users. For over 50 years, innovativevehicle features and intelligent protec-tion systems have helped to minimisethe consequences of accidents for allroad users. Airbags, inertia seat belts,seat-belt pre-tensioners and belt forcelimiters have provided Daimler pas-senger cars and commercial vehicleswith a high level of safety. The safety ofother road users has been increased, for example, by body parts that yieldon impact and by underride guards ontrucks.

Safety, from a new perspective. Our integral safety philosophy comprises four components. Prevent meanspreventing hazards and warning in good time. React refers to the anticipatory occupant protection in passengercars by means of PRE-SAFE, for example. Protect relates to minimising the consequences of accidents. Finally,Rescue refers to facilitating a rapid rescue and avoiding anything worse.

Autonomous long-distance drive:with the S 500 INTELLIGENT DRIVE research vehicle, Mercedes-Benzshowed that autonomous driving is also possible in urban and inter-urban traffic. The journey from Mannheimto Pforzheim covering approximately 100 kilometres, undertaken in 2013, followed the route taken by pio-neer Bertha Benz when she had attempted the first long-distance journey by car 125 years ago.

Assist systems are intended to provide support, but not to relieve the driver of all decision-makingresponsibility. Therefore, Daimler also attaches great importance to training for safe driving, a key additionalcomponent in the strategy for preventing accidents. Daimler offers special safe-handling training sessionsfor drivers of all its vehicles, whether passenger car, truck, van or bus. Each year, our instructors show tensof thousands of drivers how they can deal with hazardous situations and recognise or avoid risks.

    We train for safety.

Our comprehensive safety approach is not limited just to the vehicle and driver. We also believe thatwe have an important responsibility to provide information on our vehicles and their safety systems toemergency services. For many of its models, Daimler therefore provides vehicle-specific rescue cards thatcan be called up using a QR code, online or offline via an app.

How are we going to move around in

the future? We are shaping the mobil-

ity of tomorrow, driven by the passion

and innovative spirit established byour founders, Gottlieb Daimler and

Carl Benz. To do this, we are exploit-

ing our competitive advantage and the

    options offered by digital technology.

We are applying innovative ideastosatisfy customer needs for flexible, urbanmobility. For example, the moovel mobil-ity platform helps users get from A to Befficiently. The moovel system bundlesservices from regional mobility providersand presents suitable travel options viaapp or mobile webpage. At the start of2014, Daimler will make available more

than 10,000 vehicles in Europe, the USAand Canada as part of the car2go andcar2go black car-sharing schemes. Afterusers have completed a one-off registra-tion process, or via app, they can rentthese cars at any time of the day or night.

If cities and urban areas are to main-

tain their appeal, traffic must flow andbe eco-friendly. Daimler is supporting thisobjective with groundbreaking productsand solutions. Bus Rapid-Transit (BRT) isan intelligent system aimed at boomingmega cities and urban areas. State-of-the-art buses travel at frequent intervalsin dedicated priority lanes with their owntraffic lights. Passengers arrive at theirdestinations more quickly and at the

same time, emissions per passengerkilometre are significantly reduced.

    However, Daimlers commitment

extends even further. As a company,we also have a responsibility to develop asuitable framework for our mobility strat-egies. In many places, we are activelyinvolved in promoting and developingcharging stations or hydrogen filling sta-tions, intelligent traffic management ortelematics. However, the establishmentof a customer-friendly, practical andaffordable infrastructure is a matter thatmust be jointly addressed by policymak-ers, energy suppliers and the automotiveindustry.

    Talking point:teamwork and diversity.

We see diversity as a strategic factor in successful performance.

We value diverse opinions and lifestyles. Our people give Daimler the power to drive innovation and shape

the future of our company. For our global business, we make the most of their talents, experiences and skills.

Diversity management, i.e. the specific promotion of diversity in the company, has been firmly enshrined as part of

the corporate activities of Daimler since 2005 and is an important contributing factor in the success of the business.

    Daimlers success. Your benefit.

Our responsibility.Daimlers success. Your benefit. Our

    responsibility. With this statement by

the Board of Management, Daimler has

made a clear commitment to diversity

    and diversity management.

    Diversity makes a sustained contribution

    to our competitiveness. True innovation,

efficient cooperation and a sound under-

standing of our future markets are only

possible if we have a diverse range of skills

and talented people in our company.

Daimler believes that diversity is a strate-

gic factor in successful performance. To

    emphasise the enormous significance of

    diversity, diversity management has been

firmly embedded within the company on

a worldwide basis since 2005. This has

not simply been a question of creating a

diversity organisation, it has also included

the understanding that diversity is a man-

    agement responsibility: at global, regional

and local levels. Our diversity programme

comprises a wide variety of internal and

external activities. All these activities are

aimed at harnessing the broad range of

talent and putting the differences to good

use and translating them into excellent

    automotive solutions.

We are concentrating on different areas of

activity in order to actively shape diversity

within the company. At the beginning,

    diversity management at Daimler focused

on gender diversity. The agreed goal was

to increase the proportion of women in

    senior management positions throughout

the Group to 20 per cent by 2020. Now,

    other dimensions generation manage-

    ment and multiculturalism are becoming

    more of a priority.

We rely on the potential of heterogeneous

teams in our change and innovation proj-

ects. Our Employee Resource Groups are

a sign that diversity management is not

just an element of our strategy but also a

    tangible part of day-to-day work.

    We are international and intercultural.

Daimler is a global enterprise. We specifically promote cross-cultural skills, through training sessionsand workshops, for example, because this environment gives rise to new requirements in addition to creatingopportunities. Our aim is to offer all employees the opportunity to think globally and act locally.

The right mix produces success: we attach great importance to bringing together employees from differentgenerations, disciplines, cultures and nations. We actively promote diversity, through diversity workshops, for example. This is because mixed teams are indispensable if we want to generate outstanding performance.

    ntegrity.

Acting with integritymeans doinghe right thing out of conviction.

Daimler not only aims to offer the

best in terms of its products, brands

and services, it also strives to set

    standards through integrity.

Acting with integritymeans doing theright thing out of conviction as part ofour responsibility for our company, ourbusiness partners and as a member ofsociety. We comply with national andinternational laws, as well as otherregulations and internal guidelines. However, integrity extends beyondcomplying with the rules. Our objectiveis to establish at Daimler a values-basedcorporate culture in which the basicprinciples are followed and put intopractice by all employees and business

partners, based on a genuine belief inthe values concerned. Responsiblecorporate conduct is based on generalethical standards as expressed forexample in the United Nations GlobalCompact that apply regardless ofcountry, culture or language.

To promote this culture of integrity,Daimler created the BoM divisionIntegrity and Legal Affairs. Covering thewhole Daimler Group, it includes legalaffairs, compliance organisation, corporate data protection and corporateresponsibility management. This BoMdivision also includes responsibility forobserving and upholding human rightsand for permanently embedding a

corporate culture based on integrity(Integrity Management) throughoutthe Group. Our activities include aworldwide integrity dialogue in whichemployees from all levels in thehierarchy and from all functions holdopen discussions on what integritymeans in terms of day-to-day work.

Integrity is one of our four corporate

valuesand forms the basis of ourbusiness activities. We firmly believethat, in the long run, communitiesof shared values are also bettercommunities for creating value.

    Talking point:Unifying values.

    Honesty, fairness and trust: integrity

is the basis for long-term success.

As a company, we are proud of our heritage and we have a brig ht future. Both the success enjoyed inthe past, and that expected in the future, is not simply derived from strong products, but also from a sharedunderstanding of integrity and corresponding behaviour. Therefore, alongside a tradition of innovative creativity,

we also maintain a tradition of working to a set of values.

    Talking point:shared responsibility.

    Shaping, helping, developing: how Daimler

fulfils its corporate social responsibility.Nature is the basis for our future,

and a stable society is the basis for a

    good business environment. For this

reason, we fulfil our corporate socialresponsibility and are committed to

    supporting an environment in which

    it is worth living.

    Daimler believes that environmental

protection is a holistic taskto whichwe must apply ourselves in all areas ofthe business. As an automotive manu-facturer, we believe we have a respon-sibility to avoid emissions, increaseenergy efficiency and press ahead withthe development of environmentallyfriendly drive systems and fuels. How-ever, at Daimler, environmental protec-

tion begins much earlier than that andincludes the entire product life cycle:development, production, product use, disposal and recycling.

Daimler is involved in both small and

large aid projects around the globe.

Our sense of responsibility and com-mon desire to open up and supportopportunities that need our contributionand assistance is translated into a vastnumber of initiatives. One example is theWings on Wheels project. With the helpof donations from Daimler employees,a second aid convoy for Syrian refugeeshas already been sent to Gaziantep insouthern Turkey. Another example is theProCent development fund: every cent

of net salary donated by the workforcein Germany is doubled by Daimler. Asyou would expect of a global enterprise,we are also involved in worldwide aidprojects. This may involve emergencyaid following natural disasters, such asthe one in the Philippines, but can be ofa more long-term nature on the basis ofhelping people to help themselves.

The future belongs to creative minds.

In the genius education initiative, we helpto get children and young people interested

as early as possible i n issues such asmobility, environmental protection andtechnology. The MobileKids initiative isaimed at children around the world to raise

awareness of road safety and traffic issues.

We get involved around the globe.

Economic success and responsibility belong together. For instance, the Convoy of Hope Wings on Wheelsinvolving 11 Mercedes-Benz Actros semitrailer tractors transported relief supplies worth 4,000,000 euros forSyrian refugees in Turkey. Daimler introduced its own process for r apid emergency aid in 2009.
