He interacted with officers of the Batallion and inspected rescue equip- ments available with them. Commandant SDRF 1st Bn, Abdul Waheed apprised the ADGP about the available resources and shortcomings on account of rescue equipments, particularly flood related equip- ment like Boats, Rafts, Life Jackets, Lifebouy Tubes, as well as deficiency of manpow- er. Mohanti gave instructions on the spot to expedite the ten- dering process in order to ensure that the rescue equip- ments are arranged. He stressed on imparting specialized train- ing to the SDRF personnel, through NDRF. He appreciated that all the SDRF personnel passed the swimming course and encouraged them to work with dedication for the better- ment of the society. He implored the SDRF personnel to be in a state of readiness to meet any challenges that come their way. Jugal asks BSNL authorities to improve services Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 16: Member Parliament, Jammu-Poonch Constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma stressed upon the BSNL authorities to improve services particularly mobile connectivity and enhance its reach to the uncovered areas. He was addressing the Telephone Advisory Committee meeting here today. The meeting started with welcome address by GMTD, Gautam Lal who also gave a brief note on various services offered by BSNL Jammu. The members raised many questions which were answered by the concerned BSNL authorities present on the occasion. The MP stressed upon the need of installing towers in border vil- lages so that people of those areas could also avail the benefit of mobile and internet services. He also stressed for providing good internet speed to the con- sumers as per their need. The GMTD assured Member Parliament that the mobile sig- nal issue will be dealt with prop- erly. Mr Jugal also discussed about landline services in Jammu city. He also assured his full support to BSNL for any difficulty faced by company in large. He also suggested that free night calling from BSNL landline to any landline and mobile of any service provider and National incoming roaming free on BSNL mobile numbers must be given wide publicity. Gupta lays foundation of bridge over Devika Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Oct 16: Minister of State for Finance & Information Technology, Pawan Kumar Gupta laid foundation stone for the construction of a double lane motorable bridge over Devika rivulet at Omara Morh here today. After laying the foundation stone of 14.5 meters double lane motorable bridge being con- structed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.23 crore by Public Works Department, Gupta said that more such developmental proj- ects are in pipeline which include double lane of Omara to Forest Office road, installation of lights & construction of foot path along side of circular road besides construction of bridge over Devika near ice factory. The Minister also directed the concerned officers of the executing agency for ensuring time bound completion of the project while maintaining quali- ty on ground. While giving instructions to the engineers of executing agency, Mr. Gupta said the bet- ter road connectivity and bridges are vital for social and economic upgradation of people and there should be no compro- mise with the quality of materi- al. Weed out menace of drug trafficking: Ganga Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, Oct 16: Emphasizing the significance of a drug free society for rapid growth and development, Minister for Industries & Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga said that this will help channelize youth's energy in right direction which is pre-req- uisite for ushering in an era of progress and prosperity. The Minister, while speaking at a function organized by the People’s Forum for Human Values here today, highlighted the role of youth in steering the society towards a better world to live in. The Minister said that drug menace is a serious threat to public health, safety and well- being of humanity which needs to be dealt strictly at all levels. He said that the society is facing serious consequences of drug abuse and it undermines the socio-economic and political stability and sustainable devel- opment. Besides, it also distorts the health and fabric of the soci- ety besides pushing the young generation towards petty offences and heinous crimes. Ganga stressed upon the youth to involve themselves in sports activities which would help them to be mentally and physically fit besides keeping them away from such social evils. He directed the police officials to put sincere efforts in solving the cases pertaining to drug abuse besides initiating concerted steps to weed out the menace of drug trafficking. Distt Admn launches road safety drive Excelsior Correspondent SAMBA, Oct 16: Taking serious view of the constant rise in road accidents, particularly on the highway, District Administration Samba has started a district wise drive on road safety. Under this awareness pro- grammes will be held in all schools, both private and Government in which resource persons from Transport Department and from the traffic wing of the Police Department will be explaining various aspects of road safety including rules, signals, safety measures through discourses, movies and interactive sessions. The first event in the series was held for students of Adarsh Vidyapeeth, Samba and another at K.P. Higher Secondary School, Samba. Speaking on the occasion, District Magistrate, Samba, Sheetal Nanda said that there is great need to inculcate disci- pline and self-control amongst the young generation who are the more vulnerable population. She desired that road safety awareness should percolate to one and all to ensure prevention rather than punitive action after violations take place. Sonu Mangotra from Punjab bagged Ist Position while 2nd place was shared by Shivankur Bharti from Jammu, Shivam Sharma from Reasi, Bunty Kumar from Jammu and Reema Devi from Kanyala Jammu. 3rd position was shared by Vishwa Gandharv from Jammu among 14 partici- pants. JMC continues cleanliness drive, removes encroachments Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 16: While continuing cleanliness drive apart from the routine sanitation, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today under- took the extensive drive in Poonch House, Talab Tillo, Bohri area Ward No. 40 as a part of programme on sustained basis as desired by Prime Minister of India, so that “Swachh Bharat is a reality”. The cleanliness campaign was led by R.S. Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (Adm), Municipal Corporation, Jammu, along with Dr. Saleem Khan, Health Officer, JMC and other prominent persons of the area namely Baldev Raj, President Market Association, Raj Kumar, Rakesh Gupta, Sanjay Baru, Shiv Charan Sharma. On the occasion, a large numbers of locals were involved in this awareness cum cleanliness drive to make it a mass movement and the area has been cleaned thoroughly. Shootout at District Court Complex Sikh Organizations condemn police inaction; seek arrest of Kala, associate Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 16: Various Sikh Organizations condemned the inaction of the police author- ities against the real culprits of the broad day light shootout and attempt to murder which took place in District Court Complex, Jammu on October 6, 2015. Addressing a press confer- ence, the representatives of vari- ous Sikh Organizations includ- ing Akali Dal Man, Akali Dal Badal, Sikh Intellectuals, Sikh Student Federation and District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Jammu, said that as per the FIR lodged with Janipur police station, Surinder Singh Kala alongwith his accomplices Davinder Singh alias Bunty and Jasvinder Singh alias Chotu and some other persons had attacked Ranjodh Singh alias Nalwa with deadly weapons to kill him. They added that police has not arrested Surinder Singh and his associates till date. “A malicious campaign of misinformation in order to mis- guide the administration and general public has been launched to shield the real culprits, who are roaming freely despite hav- ing done such a dastardly act”, they alleged. They stated that the public conscience and faith in the police has been shaken badly due to the incident, adding that apathy of police is condemnable. The Members of the Governing Body are Dr. (Prof) Nirmal Gupta (Chairperson), Administrative Secretaries of Education, Finance, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj besides Prof. Deepshika Kotwal, Dr Darakshan Andrabi, Dinesh Gupta, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Mrs. Annusuya Khosa, Farooq Ahmed (Help Poor Voluntary Trust), Syed Shujaat Bukhari and two representatives of Central Social Welfare Board. The Secretary of the Board would be the Member Secretary of the Governing Body. The Secretary of the Boardwould be the MemberSecretary of the GoverningBody.

The Members nominated tothe Executive Committee ofthe Board are Dr. (Prof) NirmalGupta (Chairperson),Administrative Secretaries ofEducation, Finance and SocialWelfare departments, Prof.Deepshika Kotwal, SyedShujaat Bukhari and one nomi-nee of the Central SocialWelfare Board.
