DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2013 (PAGE 19) HC asks Govt to file status report in medico-pharma nexus Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 31: High Court today directed the Government through its Additional Advocate General to file status report in Public Interest Litigation stating that a number of doctors were taking bribes from a particular micro- lab. A Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magray was hearing a PIL which stated that few Government doctors were in nexus with a pharma company and have been offered freebies, bribes, kickbacks from Micro Lab Limited to prescribe its medicine in violation of Medical Council of India Rules. The petitioners have prayed before the court that the assets of these doctors be ascertained, a task force be constituted to look into such offences and compa- nies which are offering such incentives be blacklisted. "Such transactions by the doctors are at the cost of patient care, the substandard drugs sur- facing in the market have defi- nitely a link with these mal- practicing doctors causing dam- age to the health of public at large," the PIL stated. Army donates computers, furniture to MS Jandrore Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Oct 31: Under Operation Sadbhavna, Army donated computers and furniture to Government Middle School Jandrore in Udhampur district. In a small ceremony held in this connection, the computers and furniture items were handed over by Army to the school management. The aim of provisioning computer and furniture to this school was to motivate the students and channelize their energy in the right direction. This would also help to nur- ture and guide the young gen- eration. Sardar Patel's birth anniversary observed Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 31: J&K Freedom Fighter Association observed Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel's birth anniversary today in a function held at Bal Niketan Ved Mandir, Amphalla, Jammu today. The Ved Gandotra, president, J&K Freedom Fighter Association organized the function wherein chief guest was Mr Romesh, Additional Secretary, Food and Supplies. The members of the association paid floral tributes at the pho- tograph of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and remembered his deeds and dedications for the freedom struggle of the country including his post-independence efforts to join all the scattered princely states into Indian Union. Other present on the occasion were Sukhminder Singh Maini, G S Charak, Hardeep Singh, K K Rao, Gajan Singh, Narinder Singh, T S Remi, Deepak Sharma, Prof B L Bhardwaj among others. 3 yrs RI to cheater Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 31: Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, S R Gandhi today awarded three years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 to one Baldev Singh, son of Manohar Singh of Ludhiana, who was facing trial and investigation for the last 11 years for cheating his relative on the assurance of pro- viding employment visa for Germany. After hearing CPO Sanjay Kohli with Senior PO Rajeshwar Basotra for the State, CJM observed, “the culpable dishonest intention of the accused in the facts and circum- stances of the case right at the beginning can be presumed in as much as a person knowing that he was no lawful authority sitting in India making a repre- sentation to a person that he would settle him in foreign country”. “It is a case where a rela- tive duped his close relative who borrowed money from his relative and friends for employ- ment in foreign country”, the court said while awarding three years RI to cheater. Restoration of 33 KV power transmission line demanded Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 31: Pahari Development Forum District, Kishtwar has appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for restoring the 33 KV power trans- mission line at Paddar at the earli- est. In a statement issued, Thakur Kartar Singh Rathore, NC leader and Chairman Pahari Development Forum, district, Kishtwar said that power trans- mission line may be immediately repaired on war footing. He further said that grid sta- tion has been inaugurated since last 10 years but has not been made functional. He has appealed the Government for necessary steps for smooth functioning of power.
