Daily Announcements Week 5B Tuesday 15 August
**THE CHESS IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE** If you are able to harness the power of Chess, then I have a fun opportunity for you. On Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes this week and next week in the library there will be an opportunity for you to flex your Chess brain and your mentoring and encouragement skills against our youngest players – the Oxley primary students! Our chess players from the primary school have a tournament coming up at the end of August and it would be wonderful for them to have opportunities to play more experienced students to help them get used to playing people other than their usual opponents (typically, parents, brothers, sisters, and other family members). This is also a chance for you to mentor and encourage younger players in the wonderful game of Chess. You do not have to be Anatoly Karpov or Garry Kasparov or even the IBM computer playing chess machine ‘Deep Blue’ – if you love the game and have played a bit and are confident, then the library is the place for you to be on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime! Basic rules of play apply, plus no heckling or assisting from the side please AND, perhaps best of all, come and see some of our best Chess playing teachers join in the fun too! I’d love to see you come along to the library and be part of this lovely initiative with our primary aged, keen, Chess playing students. Thank you. Miss Lane
THANK YOU Since the introduction of the BYOF initiative at the end of Term 2, we have used 1000 bamboo forks (as at the end of Week 4) which means 1000 fewer plastic forks going to landfill. The canteen committed to donating 10c from every bamboo fork sold so that’s $100 going towards other environmental initiatives. Thank you for your support of this initiative (and the free publicity generated through House Drama).
