Da Vinci... Volare !Création 2016
Prince of the fading paintings, king of the ideal cities on paper,Leonardo Da Vinci discovered new continents by exploring bodies and light.
But if there was a domain where he gave himself heart and soul, that would surely be the sky!
His whole life, he dreamt of flying over cities and of beingthe first man to rise towards the heavens !
Leonardo da Vinci has filled our dreams so vastly
that we decided to make him fly !
To evoke Leonardo da vinci, How pretentious ! Of this man who embraced with his mighty hand and his visionary eye so much knowledge, arts and techniques. We retain his huge curiosity, his insatiable need to unders-tand. Leonardo turns himself into God to get to know Man and his mys-tery. “I Want to Work miracles !” he said
This show is the rising, the flight of a man on a quest for perfection in the art of imitating nature. We share with Leonardo da Vinci a passion for flying, a desire to join the sky, he also fascinates us for having considered air as a material. From the top of a rock Leonardo takes flight. He throws himself into the void as one would throw themselves into life. The hand that pushed him is his own. The creator’s ambiguous hand. The pointing finger doesn’t come from the sky, it’s questioning him.
Next the process of creation is evoked, the turmoil of inventing when the patron’s desire is confronted with the artist’s needs. It is the time for research, sketches, transparencies, the coloured line is drawn on the yellowed paper, it’s the codex, the weather becomes stormy. Is Man only a machine? From failures to strandings, the artist persists and flies at last, feeing gravities. In this peaceful final, Leonardo moves through his colours. He succeeds in uniting the technician’s dream to fly and the artist’s of pain-ting the invisible air using the sfumato.

Reflection on the ancient dream of flying
The show is an evocation of Leonardo da Vinci’s work throughthe obsession of flying which haunted the master his entire life. The air as a support for flying and as an inspiration for creatingwill be our main theme. For Da Vinci as well as for us, the dream of flying was a stimulus as much as the hunger to understand and to act on the world.
The horses and their twisted lines from his Battle of Anghiari take onthe storm’s curves and his rare paintings become gentle and joyful tornadoes which he flies over in his flying machine.Through art and air, Da Vinci becomes a magician, inventor of fantasyand of the need for knowledge. The marriage between the techni-cian’s dream and the artist’s in a festival of flying in the spirit of the Re-naissance. To paint the air, « Da Vinci... VOLARE ! » mixes vincian loo-king flying machines and inflatables inspired by Leonardo’s paintings.
Composed of five images, this show requires about 14 people (more or less depending on the version and duration) day or night. « Da Vinci... VO-LARE ! » can also be presented as an installation, the different elements coming to life at certain times, each image constituting a short scene.

He’s Flying !
The man meets the heavens at last and asks himself, how to paint the air ?
The « Plasticiens Volants » are a street theatre
company. Who, with their extraordinary flying
creatures, have invaded the heavens, streets and
squares of towns throughout the five continents.
Operated from the ground, these amazing giant
puppets fly above the public and play with them
to tell each tale. A dynamic group of creators who
from 1976 (date of its establishment) has grown
from a 2 to a 30 person strong company today.
A wholehearted devotion for all that flies, eager to
share an emotion before it dies, we are at home
in meeting spaces, everyday places or passing
through places. Our desire is to meet, gather
and embrace a maximum amount of people of
all walks of life. This wish, to captivate, guide or
lead people across town brings us to the question.
« What do you have to do so that everybody can see the same thing at the same time ? ».Our experience and research has enabled us to
give life and form to specific characters : « the
inflatables ». These giant inflated puppets and
objects fly over the public and are awesome
in size. They ruse with urban objects, slide
up streets, and squeeze out of porch-ways or
escape up alleys… They are operated from the
ground by actors: the ‘actoroperator’s, who evolve
and play amongst and with the public. These
actor-operators are at one with the character
that floats above them and are a fantastic
inflatable extension of them. They run, dance,
disappear and appear in order to tell their story.
Our stories we tell are either the fruit of our
imagination (EZILI, LES OGRES) or come
from a book (Don Quichotte) or a fairytale
(Simurgh) or inspired from myths and legends
(Babilonia) or history of universe (BIG BANG)...

A l’époque,
