The Villiers Quartet announces the VQ New Works Competition for2016. This competition is open to composers of any nationality and
age writing new music for string quartet.
Deadline for entries is January 15th, 2016
The field will be narrowed to 6 composers, whose works will be video recorded and posted on the Villiers Quartet website for online audience vote from April 1st - 15th, 2016. The top 3 finalists will be announced on April 16th, 2016 and have their works performed live at the Jaqueline Du Pré Music Building at Oxford University by the Villiers Quartet on May 27th, 2016. The winner will be determined by audience vote. Prizes will be awarded in the following order:

Composition Requirements:
• All composition entries must be original works written for string quartet
instrumentation: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello.
• The duration of the piece must not exceed 20 minutes.
• Deadline for submissions is Friday, January 15th, 2016.
How the winner will be chosen:
• After an initial selection process, the field will be narrowed to 6 works. Selected
movements from each work will be recorded and posted on our website from
April 1st - 15th, 2016, where an online vote will determine 3 finalists.
• The 3 finalists will be notified and announced on April 16th, 2016. These works
will be performed live in concert on May 27th, 2016 at the Jaqueline Du Pré
Music Building, Oxford University.
• The winning entry will be chosen at the concert by audience vote. The winner will
receive the First Prize of £1000, plus inclusion of their work into the Villiers
Quartet repertoire for upcoming seasons, and a recording of their work by the
Villiers Quartet. The Second Prize of £250 and Third Prize of £125 will also be
awarded.
• This concert will be recorded and streamed on the internet.
How to enter:
1. Download and complete the Application Form
2. Send us your quartet score and parts, either by post or by email.
3. Include your Application form, a one-page CV, and a brief description of your
composition (200 words or less).
4. Complete payment of non-refundable £50 application fee, either by UK cheque,
written out to "Villiers Quartet," by electronic bank transfer in GBP sterling, or by
PayPal
