%eaponsThe +eapons covered here are rouped into three cateories based on their eneral utilit- raned +eapons, e/plosives and splash +eapons, and melee +eapons.

    )aned %eapons

)aned +eapons fall into three eneral roups handuns, lonarms, and other raned +eapons such as crossbo+s.

%hen usin a raned +eapon, the +ielder applies his or her (e/terit- modifier to the attac roll.

anduns and lonarms are personal firearms. & personal firearm is an- firearm desined to be carried and used b- a sinle person.

    )aned %eapons Table

)aned +eapons are described b- a number of statistics, as sho+n on Table )aned %eapons.

Damage:The damae the +eapon deals on a successful hit.

Critical: The threat rane for a critical hit. f the threat is confirmed, a +eapon deals double damae on a critical hit $roll damae t+ice, as if hittin the taret t+o times*.

Damage Type:)aned +eapon damae is classified accordin to t-pe ballistic $all firearms*, ener- $of a specific t-pe*, piercin $some simple raned +eapons*, or

slashin $a +hip*. 'ome creatures or characters ma- be resistant or immune to some forms of damae.

Range Increment:&n- attac at less than this distance is not penali2ed for rane. o+ever, each full rane increment causes a cumulative 34 penalt- on the attac roll.

)aned +eapons have a ma/imum rane of ten rane increments, e/cept for thro+n +eapons, +hich have a ma/imum rane of five rane increments.

Rate of Fire:'ome raned +eapons have a rate of fire of 1, +hich simpl- means the- can be emplo-ed once per round and then must be reloaded or replaced. 5irearms,

+hich operate throuh man- different forms of internal mechanisms, have var-in rates of fire. The three possible rates of fire for handuns, lonarms, and heav-

+eapons are sinle shot, semiautomatic, and automatic.Single Shot:& +eapon +ith the sinle shot rate of fire re6uires the user to manuall- operate the action $the mechanism that feeds and cocs the +eapon* bet+een each

shot. !ump shotuns and bolt7action rifles are e/amples of firearms +ith sinle shot rates of fire. & +eapon +ith the sinle shot rate of fire can fire onl- one shot per

attac, even if the user has a feat or other abilit- that normall- allo+ more than one shot per attac.

Semiautomatic (S):"ost firearms have the semiautomatic rate of fire. These firearms feed and coc themselves +ith each shot. & semiautomatic +eapon fires one shot

per attac $effectivel- actin as a sinle shot +eapon*, but some feats allo+ characters armed +ith semiautomatic +eapons to fire shots in rapid successions, ettin in

more than one shot per attac.

Automatic (A):&utomatic +eapons fire a burst or stream of shots +ith a sinle s6uee2e of the trier. Onl- +eapons +ith the automatic rate of fire can be set on autofire

or be used +ith feats that tae advantae of automatic fire.

Magazine:The +eapon8s maa2ine capacit- and t-pe are iven in this column. The amount of ammunition a +eapon carries, and hence ho+ man- shots it can fire before

needin to be reloaded, is determined b- its maa2ine capacit-. o+ the firearm is reloaded depends upon its maa2ine t-pe. The number in this entr- is the maa2ine8s

capacit- in shots9 the +ord that follo+s the number indicates the maa2ine t-pe bo/, c-linder, or internal. & fourth t-pe, lined, has an unlimited capacit-9 for this reason

loaded as part of the firin process.

Box:& bo/ maa2ine is an- t-pe of maa2ine that can be removed and reloaded separatel- from the +eapon.

Cylinder:& revolver eeps its ammunition in a c-linder, +hich is part of the +eapon and serves as the firin chamber for each round as +ell. Unlie bo/ maa2ines,

c-linders can8t be removed, and the- must be reloaded b- hand. o+ever, most revolvers can be used +ith a speed loader. Usin a speed loader is much lie insertin a

    bo/ maa2ine into a +eapon. %ithout a speed loader, a firearm +ith a c-linder maa2ine must be loaded b- hand.

Internal:'ome +eapons eep their ammunition in an internal space, +hich must be loaded b- hand. This is the case +ith most shotuns, as +ell as some rifles.

Linked:'ome machine uns use lined ammunition. The bullets are chained toether +ith small metal clips, formin a belt. T-picall-, a belt holds :0 bullets9 an- numberof belts can be clipped toether. n militar- units, as the unner fires, an assistant clips ne+ ammunition belts toether, eepin the +eapon fed.

Size:'i2e cateories for +eapons and other ob;ects are defined differentl- from the si2e cateories for creatures. The relationship bet+een a +eapon8s si2e and that of its

    +ielder defines +hether it can be used one7handed, if it re6uires t+o hands, and if it8s a liht +eapon.
