How I created my Cover Image
I took pictures of my friend Ben with my Nikon D200 digital SLR camera. I shot with the ambient light from my bedroom and nothing else, as flash took away the atmosphere.I shot this picture at 1/40 sec and f-stop 3.5 at ISO speed 1600 and at 18mm on a digital lens (27mm equivalent on 35mm camera). To edit the image I used the college’s Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. Here is the picture before and after editing:Before: After:
Here is the process of editing to get from beginning to end.
File>Open>DBC_1011.jpg
Firstly, correcting and enhancing lighting. I use all three of these drop-down menus on ‘Adjust Lighting’.
I brought up the contrast of the midtones and then added a little light to the shadows.
I then increased overall contrast and made the photo slightly brighter.
Afterwards, I added more black colours into the mix and also added some midtones to brighten it a little more.
To achieve the strange blue/grey tone I converted the picture to black and white.
Which brings up this menu:
I chose the ‘Newspaper’ setting, then reduced the contrast to around 40% and pushed Blue over 50%.
After this, I returned to:
And added midtone contrast again, reduced shadows and saved.
Then saved the file under a new name.
And selected ‘High quality’ and ‘Baseline Standard’, then clicked OK.
