From the Pastor

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! It was wonderful to be able to spend some of this past weekend with our church family in worship on Sunday morning. That’s always an ingredient for a great weekend. We are on Week 2 of our 40 Days of Prayer emphasis. If you’ve missed the first week, no worries! Jump in and begin praying with us anytime. Remember, you can see the daily devotions on our church Facebook page, or you can get the Scripture readings and prayer guide in the bulletin each Sunday. One rule I always try to remember when I read and pray is to be careful not to let Satan trick me into thinking I have it all together or that I don’t need the prayer or guidance in a certain area. It can be easy to look at scripture and say “Oh, I know who really needs to hear that,” or to look at one of the prayer guides each day and think “I should pray for this person or that person so that they will get their act together.” When we do that, we may not be allowing God to work in our own lives because we are focused on someone else’s life. I’ll be honest, I need as much help as I can get each day. Don’t get me wrong, I pray for others, but I always try to make sure I’m not looking at the speck in someone else’s eye while I have the log in my own. So church, let’s pray together for each other but always looking inwardly to make sure we are growing in Jesus ourselves! This Sunday begins our new Fall Bible Study groups. The two that are left open are the “Love Talk” communication in marriage series with Lindsay and myself and the 204 Bible Study group that will meet here at church with Tim Whitis. Remember to sign up for the Love Talk Bible Study if you’d like to attend, but the 204 Bible Study is open to all with no need to sign up. The month of September has a lot going on in the life of our church, so be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for all the ways you can be involved. Bro. Justin

OCC Shoebox Needs

Toothbrushes (need 77) Spiral notebooks (need 92)

Brushes and/or combs (208) Markers, color pencils, or crayons (need 92)

Cups (need 12) New or gently used stuffed animals

Hair accessories

Thanks to all who continue to give!

Below are testimonials from shoebox recipients:

Growing up in a culture rife with bribery, my shoebox gift- given

with no strings attached- showed me God’s unconditional love.

As a Christian from a low-income family in Ukraine,I saw my shoebox

gift as an answer to my mother’s prayers.

We received notebooks and pencils in our shoebox gifts in Jamaica at

age 8. Before this, our father cut a notebook and pencil in half so

we’d have school supplies.

I can attest to the need to put toothbrushes in shoebox gifts- I

shared one with nine other girls in a Guatemalan orphanage.

The shoebox showed me that God is my provider.

God used a shoebox to reassure me of His love.

The shoebox made me realize that Jesus hadn’t abandoned me. It

was a representation of His love for me.
