Farmers spend big and create record field days at Henty A cautious spring outlook failed to dampen the 49th Henty Machinery Field Days with a record crowd and exhibitors reporting strong agricultural machinery sales. A crowd of more than 60,000 people inspected over 1200 sites staged by 800 exhibitors across the 89ha site on September 18-20. Henty Machinery Field Days chairman Ross Edwards said farmers were spending, with interest centred on bulk grain and stock han- dling equipment. Mr Edwards said site numbers were 25 per cent up on last year and more than $100 million worth of machinery on display. A highlight of Henty this year was the pres- tigious Machine of the Year award won by Berrima Engineering, of Deniliquin, with their BR1200 Roller bar hay rake. Berrima Engineering director Martin Morona said the award had sparked “seriously good interest’’ in their Australian designed and manufactured product. Goldacres took out the Tractor and Machinery Association Award for best Australian built machine with the Windrower 2000. Another crowd puller this year was the dis- play of 18 vintage Bulldog tractors staged by the Henty and District Antique Farm Machinery Club to mark the 100th anniversary of the popular single cylinder machine. Stoll Sprayers director Jarrod Stoll, of Wagga Wagga, said feedback was positive despite farmers waiting for spring rain to make their buying decisions. Mr Stoll said most interest had centred on larger self-propelled sprayers. “Everyone seems to be taking a step up in the size of their gear,’’ he said. “I’m convinced a lot of people will come back in the next month or two to buy.’’ Henty Machinery Field Days chief execu- tive officer Graeme Hicks said crowd numbers had exceeded expectations. “We estimate more than 60,000 people visit- ed the field day site,’’ Mr Hicks said. He said positive feedback had been received on the improved signage and increased parking and on-site vehicle movement restrictions. “The amount of interest in bookings for next year far exceeds this time last year,’’ Mr Hicks said. “We are now looking forward to the 50th anniversary and this will give us a great oppor- tunity to focus on the heritage of the field days.” Huge crowds attend Henty Machinery Field Days 2012.
