Course Overview

Welcome to the Critical Care Transport Provider (CCEMTPSM) course!

This is an intensive course designed for experienced paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians and physician assistants

Overview

• What this course is NOT:– This course is NOT a paramedic or nurse

“refresher” course– All students are expected to have an excellent

understanding of paramedicine and nursing prior to class

– Regardless of when you attended school, all students are required to be knowledgeable in current paramedic curriculum content (i.e. RSI, 12 lead interpretation, pharmacology, etc.)

Overview

• Students are recommended to have a minimum of one year experience as an EMT-P, RN, RT or PA prior to class

• The average experience level of students taking this class is approximately 10 years

• What this course IS:– This course is an introductory course to

critical care transport medicine concepts– No student can be expected to become a

master of all concepts by the end of this course

–Much of the material simply provides an introductory overview of concepts

Attendance

• Students are required to attend 100% of the course

• Tardiness is not permitted in this program– Students who arrive later than 10 minutes

to class will need to report directly to the Course Coordinator

• UMBC recommends that students who miss more than one (1) hour of course time be dismissed from the program

Attendance

• Students must sign an attendance sheet at the beginning of each day, and then throughout the day

• It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they have signed the attendance roster for each class

• Failure to sign in for each class may result in denial of final exam testing

Attendance

• If any student is going to be tardy or absent to a class, they must contact the Course Coordinator and let them know

• Students who miss class due to illness or an emergency will be handled on an individual basis– Continued participation will be left up to

the Course Coordinator, Course Medical Director and UMBC.

– UMBC will have the final decision authority.

• Students must complete the full day of education and are not allowed to leave class before dismissal at the end of the class day

• If you must leave early from class, you are required to check in first with the course coordinator

Outside Studying

• Students will have to study outside of the class in order to successfully pass the exam

• Successful students usually study between 2 – 3 hours each day after class

• Failure to study outside of the class will most likely result in failure of the final exam

Final Exam

• Each student will be given the opportunity to sit for the final exam, as long as the following requirements have been met:– 100% attendance for the length of the

course– Presentation of current pre-requisites as

previously determined by each site and UMBC

Final Exam

• Students who successfully complete the exam with a 70% or better will be awarded a CCEMTP certificate of completion, wallet card and a choice of either a CCEMTP pin or patch

• Certificates are valid for three years and should be renewed to maintain CCEMTP status with UMBC

Final Exam

• Individuals that do not successfully complete the exam with a 70% or better will be given the opportunity to retest twice, within one (1) year of the original exam date

• $25.00 fee for each retest• Retests will not be conducted until

twenty-four (24) hours has elapsed since the original test date and time

Final Exam

• Retests are offered at the following:– Pre-arranged course exams– National conferences which a UMBC

representative is attending– UMBC campus during normal business

hours

• Students must contact the Course Coordinator and UMBC to arrange a retest

CCEMTP Renewal

• Certified CCEMTP’s must maintain 36 hours of critical care continuing education every 3 years

• Any topic that would normally be covered in a CCEMTP course is acceptable for recertification
