Characteristics of Effective Learning A is a very kind, caring, active boy. He can manage his own time during ‘Busy Bee’ and with reminders is beginning to attempt to complete challenges or problems to solve. He is developing friendships with the other children. A shows particular interests in construction, role-play and small world play. He will often be found in the role play area. A uses his personal experiences to develop his play through role-play construction and small world. A likes to role-play using bricks to construct different props such as costumes from the dress up area. He is now starting develop his own ideas using notebooks, creations and construction tools. A’s likes to play During Busy Bee Time A played with 2 friends in the police role play area. Having had a visit from a real policeman earlier in the day. A happily followed direction from his friend in his role – looking after the prisoners. The boys wanted to ‘do fingerprints’ like the real policeman, after exploring a few different materials to do this with they settled on using finger paints to do this. A said ‘now I will know who the baddies are each time’. A suggested making baddie posters too and the finger prints could go on here. During the afternoon they worked together to create a poster. A took a phone call ‘ is he real bad I will get jail ready’ May CI Child A EAD A spent time drawing a picture, he used a black marker to draw his outline and used coloured pencil to colour it in – ‘it looks like a colouring book picture – see’. Characteristics of Effective Learning

A is a very kind, caring, active boy. He can manage his own time during ‘Busy Bee’ and with reminders is beginning to attempt to complete challenges or problems to solve. He is developing friendships with the other children. A shows particular interests in construction, role-play and small world play. He will often be found in the role play area. A uses his personal experiences to develop his play through role-play construction and small world. A likes to role-play using bricks to construct different props such as costumes from the dress up area. He is now starting develop his own ideas using notebooks, creations and construction tools. A’s likes to play with familiar friends and they will often direct him in play. He likes the support of his friends if he isn’t sure what to do. A works best in a group or in a collective activity. He is able to find the resources / ‘props’ he needs but will seek help to solve a problem. Within a familiar context or task A will start to show more initiative and capacity to take the lead, however he is not yet secure in this.

During assembly, listening to music of the week A became very animated and was moving in time to the music and during the instrumental part joined in with his own air guitar! June

World Book Day – A came dressed as Spiderman and showed his friends how Spiderman spins weds and struck a few Spidey poses! Mar

Pots and Pans – Busy Bee Time May CIDuring BB Time A chose to explore the pots and pans outside on the fence. A – I’m going to make some musicA – drum music He then used the spoons (wooden and metal) as drum sticks making lots of different sounds, he could hold a steady rhythm alternating between the wooden and metal spoon.

The Gruffalo Song- joined in the repeated lines in the song with some dramatic actions to accompany – enjoyed

During Busy Bee Time a group of children were in the doctor’s role play.A – you have a poorly tummy you need to take your ‘madiorclana’ (trying to read label), you have 3, you need them you are poorlyA then lined up 3 bottles of medicine for Miss to take.A – you take these and stay in your bed Miss – how long do I have to stay in bed? And take my medicine?A – til you are better A then went back to peers, took the stethoscope and listened to a friend’s heart

During Busy Bee Time a group of children used the IWB to find some action songs / dances, they selected some songs A – let’s do dancing A loves to dance and took himself to the front of the group, he followed the dance moves on the screen and his peers followed. Others joined. A demonstrated good rhythm

A used plasticine to make little birds and eggs, after visiting the ducklings in year 2. These are flowers these are birdies and these are eggs. Had made different shapes to represent each bit, then used a whiteboard pen to add

L and A were using the Interactive Whiteboard. They used the touch screen to choose a variety of songs to dance to. Then they moved in response to the chosen piece of music creating different rhythms. A displayed an ability to keep in time to the music. Feb CI
