Prevalence of CyberbullyingPatchin and Hinduja (2005) studied 1400 Internet-using adolescents’
experiences with online bullying found that
• 34% of respondents say they have been bullied online
• 13% were threatened• 5% were scared for their
safety• 17% have bullied others
online• 56% were bullied in a
chatroom• 49% were bullied using
computer text message (IM)• 28% were bullied by email• 34% felt frustrated
• 30% felt angry• 22% felt sad• 24% of victims were
negatively affected at home• 18% of victims were
negatively affected at school• 42% of victims did not tell
anyone about the incident• 11% of those who were
bullied told an adult about the incident

Penalties
• If convicted, even if a juvenile, the guilty person must register as a sex offender. This could remain on the person’s record for life, or a limited time, held to the discretion of the judge.
• Harmful – Misdemeanor of the 1st degree• Obscene – Felony of the 5th degree• Under 13 years of age – Felony of the 4th degree
(regardless of anything…no matter what)
