Expertise:Expertise:- neuroanatomy- microperfusion techniques- fluorescence immunohistochemistry- confocal microscopy; calcium imaging- primary sensory neuron culture- proteomics- flow cytometry- behavioral techniques – pain testing, Morris water maze, activity boxes- telemetry data acquisition system –BP- echocardiography - stress hormone measurement- neuroimmune measurements
EquipmentEquipmentOlympus FluoView 1000 confocal
microscope Radiotelemetry to continuously
measure arterial pressure and heart rate in conscious, freely moving, rats
Behavioral apparatus for pain testing; activity boxes; rotarod for motor skill accessment; Forced swim test
Metabolic Cages
Example of successful Example of successful collaboration: Al Beitz and collaboration: Al Beitz and Phil PortoghesePhil PortoghesePhil synthesized several bivalent
ligands with a mu opioid receptor agonist end and a metabotropic glutamate receptor antagonist end
Our lab tested these bivalent ligand in a mouse inflammatory pain model and a cancer pain model
One of the bivalent ligands proved to be extremely potent in both pain models
Paper submitted to PNAS
