Software Engineer, Hewlett Packard 3PAR, BelfastJune 13-August 14Involved in a variety of teams in HP 3PAR both on year of industrial placement and following summer. HP 3PAR manufacture and develop systems and software for data storage including disk arrays and storage management software.

Projects and Key Responsibilities Software development

o Python development: designing and coding a number of scripts used for testing many different features of the storage array. This included writing an entire Testing Suite for the IDART framework to test a newly coded feature.

o Converting older test cases from outdated test suites to the more recent systems.o Creating standalone script to automatically execute Unit Tests on software build.

Integrationo Executing tests upon the system to check if functionality was behaving as

expected.o Running performance tests and drawing up test plans for existing tests.

I worked here as a software developer for 15 months. Here I got experience using a massive range of development tools although I spent a majority of my time programming writing and performing tests in Python. I was given a wide variety of tasks so I was able to use my own logic to solve the many

problems. I also became very experienced working in Linux and learning all the commands and programs that come with that, for example VIM. I have become at home using Eclipse as well as I did 90% of my coding in this environment due to its vast array of features and GIT integration. This period of work just went to further confirm that I want to end up in this field as a software developer.

Final Year ProjectThis is a mobile app to display a student’s personal timetable on their mobile device. I chose to deploy this as a Web App using HTML/PHP/CSS with mobile optimisation. Using all of this technology together along with MySQL has been a challenging experience but has further cemented my desire to work in the Computing industry.

Technical Experience Languages/Scripting: Python, Java, C# Management Software: GIT, Bugzilla, Review board Operating Systems: Windows XP & 7, Linux (command line use) Web Programming: XML, CSS, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, ASP.NET Mobile App Development: Android SDK (basic) Software: Visual Studio, Android Studio, GameMaker Studio, Unity, Office 2010, VIM, IDART,

PuTTY, Microsoft SQL Management Studio Databases: MySQL, SQLite, Microsoft SQL

Teamwork, Leadership and Communication Worked as part of several globally diverse teams in HP 3PAR, this required communicating

through emails and calls to be able to work effectively. Working on these teams means being able to multi task effectively and prioritise responsibilities. Troubleshooting skills were tested performing code reviews for other employees in the office. Attending bi-annual Staff/Student meeting as part of the duties of a Class Rep exercised commu-

nication skills, also being approachable. Worked as part of a team in the PowerScreen competition developing an app using GameMaker.

Interests and Hobbies Fitness & Health – Pushing myself daily in the gym is what I strive for and I believe this

gives me an excellent attitude for succeeding in a workplace. Technology – Building PCs and playing around with new and current technology. I have re-

cently made a virtual reality mobile shooting game for Google Cardboard using Unity. I also love learning new languages and technologies so I compete in any Hackathon events in my area. I recently was the winner of the CodeSmash event hosted by ShopkeepPOS, which was a hackathon event in RoR.

Android ROM Community: Due to my keen interest in technology, I like to keep up to date on the latest developer ROMs available for my phone.

Travel – I am very open to visiting other cultures and experiencing other cuisines with friends, having recently travelled to Mexico and New York City.

Music – Avid music fan and regularly attend gigs. Gaming – Enjoy gaming as a pastime and this has led me to develop maps for games using

their SDKs. I have used Hammer to make maps for Source-Engine games. I love to attend gaming LAN events with my friends to compete in gaming competition and seeing the com-munity.
