Financial writer (April 2013 – August 2013):

I was involved in producing financial news, whether it was from announcements on the ASX, or more in depth research pieces. Typically involving the continual monitoring of the as well as searching for more media releases which would be of interest to investors. More in depth pieces would look at, for example, how the Ten Network would improve its share price by adding more sport to its network, notably the Commonwealth Games and the Winter Olympics. Specially targeted blogs would also be written about financial news in a more casual format for consumption by readers.

Immediately posting pertinent stories eg: on the Reserve Bank’s interest rate decision every first Tuesday of the month

Monitor the ASX for all important announcements about the top 200 companies and reporting thereon

Editorial Writer (August 2012 – April 2013):

Writing for company clients, to benefit them through SEO - this involved liaising with clients to ensure that their needs were met by writing specific stories containing specific keywords. For example; putting a particular political slant on a story ensuring that the geographical subject of a story was within and positive to their area of business. Up to 5,000 words were written per day, with varying lengths on each story.

Responsibilities

To search for stories based on clients area of business, including real estate, law, immigration, etc.

Contacting clients to propose a topic for a story, seeking feedback or to enquire if they wanted to suggest a story themselves

Liaise with account managers about any changes to the client’s needs Write blogs about social media, SEO or other related areas in which Castleford was involved.

Successfully obtained a paid internship with the radio station of one of the country’s best journalism schools. In charge of presenting and producing a pre-recorded fortnightly half hour radio program. This included a news segment and various interviews on different and controversial stories, including politics, euthanasia and various other topical issues.
