After leaving a commissioned role with the UK Army in 1994 I joined the oil and gas industry and rapidly progressed to senior HSEQ positions in rail construction, initially with Network Rail in the UK and more recently with Laing O'Rourke in Australia and with Al Ayuni Investment Company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.. A dedicated occupational health and safety practitioner, I always seeks to achieve the highest standards in my role. I am well qualified as a lifting operations appointed operator, trainer and assessor, including helicopter work and OHL's and transmission lines. I have extensive experience in the health and safety issues relating to rail renewal, new build rail and construction civil projects. Since joining respective organisations, I have built up a very strong working relationship within the project teams, our principal framework contractors and statutory enforcement bodies. These relationships are critical to my performance. I would note that my previous military, construction site and offshore experience has equipped me well for working in all environments and shift patterns. My approach to work emphasises the cultural changes required to make health and safety a lived reality on the worksite. I work on applying process to modify behaviours so as

Jan 2015 - Present. Waad Al Shamaal Project, KSA, Saudi Arabia Rail SAR 770m

Project involves construction of 190Km new rail infrastructure, Road bridges, camel crossings and culverts to service new phosphate mine at Turaif. Leading a team of 6 HSE Advisors with a dedicated campsite medic. Responsible for the Implementation of new safety and environmental management systems for AICC across all sectors and leading team for future ISO 18001 & ISO 14001 accreditation.

Safety ManagerOct 2013– Dec 2014 Bauhinia Line Electrification project, QLD, Aurizon $110mThe Bauhinia Electrification Project involves 110km of rail electrification, linking Xstrata Coal’s Rolleston Mine to the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal. The project will also support the longer term development of local mine operations. The scope of works includes a 132kV feeder station, 5km of 132kV overhead transmission line, a 50kV Feeder Station, 50kV Track Sectioning Yard, several trackside auto transformers, 110km of overhead traction wiring, telecommunications and more than 2,300 overhead wiring mast foundations.Reporting to the Project Manager and leading a team of two Safety Advisors, One Environmental advisor and one trainer/assessor duties include for all HSE coverage of the Bauhinia Line Electrification project.

Senior Safety Advisor (Acting Safety Manager)

Mar2012–Sep2013 Port Hedland Inner Harbour and Jimblebar Project, WA, BHP Billiton Iron Ore $106mThis project – formerly known as RGP 5B and 6A – involved improving BHP Billiton Iron Ore's rail infrastructure in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Laing O'Rourke installed 119km of new track and 85 turnouts and carried out the operation and maintenance of a flash butt welding yard and locomotives used for ballast and rail deliveries. The works required numerous short-term closures of the railway, and through close collaboration with the client our team ensured that there were zero delays to its operations.Reporting to the Project Safety Manager, I led a team of two Safety Advisors duties covering the Western Australia geographical area, including Port Hedland Inner Harbour and Newman Mine’s dual rail works.

Health and Safety Manager (Investment Projects - Safety and Compliance)Jun2010–Mar2012 Network Rail, UK £2bReporting to the Head of Health Safety Environment and Assurance (HSEA), I led a team of two HSEA Specialists and directed the provision of comprehensive health, safety and assurance advice and support to the Project teams and Principal Contractors. I also facilitated compliance with the Network Rail Health and Safety Management System and provided advice and guidance on all relevant legal, industry and company standards in functional operational safety and behavioural safety areas.

Permit Co-ordinator2000–2002 Douglas platform Liverpool bay, UK, BHP Billiton £78mIn 2000, I was engaged in contract work employed by PGS Atlantic Power and acted as Permit Co-ordinator for BHP Billiton on the Douglas platform Liverpool Bay. This included gaining full RGIT training and OPITO membership as required for this type of work. Key duties included: identifying clashes at work fronts on various deck levels, gas testing at worksite locations and electrical isolations, lock off prior to works commencing and monitoring compliance with permit requirements.
