    Summary: The primary objective of this researchwork was to numerically and experimentally

    investigate the low Reynolds number pulsating flow physics through piezoelectrically actuated

    conicaldiffuser/nozzlemicropumps.PrintedCircuitBoard (PCB) substrateswereused to fabricate

    andparametricallystudytheeffectofexcitationsignalandgeometricalconfigurationontheoutput

    pumpperformance.Flow separation, recirculation andbidirectionalitywere someof theobserved

    characteristicfeaturesduringoperation.

    The secondaryobjectivewas todesignanddevelopa low cost,portable thermalmanagement

    system for liquid coolingofelectronicheat sinks.Signal conditioningand controlelectronicswere

    integrated with the micropump and a minichannel heat sink on the PCB, to form a modular

    micropumpheatexchangerunit.Theeffectivenessof thesystemwithethanolas theworking fluid

    wascharacterizedanditssuitabilityforactiverealtimetemperaturecontroldemonstrated.

    Summary:Acircularspacerring isplacedbetweentwotaperrollerbearingson thepinionshaftto

    providetherequiredpreloadduringpowertransmissioninanautomobile.Thepreexistingtrialand

    errormethod for the determination of spacer thickness in the pinion cage assembly caused high

    fatigue to theworkersandan increase in theproduction time.Toovercome thisproblema fixturecomprisingofadolly,locatorandbaseplatewasdesignedandfabricatedtochoosethecorrectspacer

    thicknessandadjustthepreloadcondition.Asecondmethodutilizingadialindicatorfixedinadolly

    wasalsoproposed,wherethedistancebetweenthebearingswasdeterminedfortherequiredpreload

    andthecorrectspacersizeselected.
