Harken is pleased to present this new addition to our standard catalog. The pages contain block, traveler, winch, and hydraulic systems specifically tailored for the larger yachts that are under construction or that are already sailing.

Harken’s first introduction to the world of big boats came in 1977 when working with the 12 meters (large boats for the time) competing in the 1980 America’s Cup. It was only four years from then that we equipped our first megayacht. Over the years, yachts have gotten bigger and bigger, with Harken developing ever- stronger, high-performance equipment to handle the increasing loads on hulls and rigging.

During the ‘90s, Harken supplied the Whitbread boats, the French ocean-going trimarans, most of the new maxi racing yachts, and America’s Cup yachts. We also expanded our winch range, and were able to offer full winch systems to yachts 100’ and over. Roll the time line forward 20-plus years and the rumor mill is in overdrive about people looking at yachts with winch loads requiring up to 70 tons of pull. To meet these new challenges, Harken constructed a full testing facility for 70 ton winches at its factory. Winches using hydraulic or electric motors were built and have successfully met the 70-ton pull requirements! We are prepared and ready to go!

At Harken, we are very fortunate to have so many loyal, long-time customers that consistently lay down the gauntlet for us with new ideas and opportunities. We’re proud to have had the team and support we needed to meet these challenges.

    Best Regards,

    Corinne Rich Custom Sales Manager

    SnatchBLOCKS

These versatile hard-working blocks are a must in every yacht’s inventory.

Their opening sideplates and simple operation allow crew to quickly fasten

them wherever needed. Harken Snatch blocks excel in static applications that

require small adjustments: tack-line leads, barberhaulers, halyard leads.

Loop soft attachment carries block’s primary load

    • Aligns for fair leads.

    • Articulating loop carries the block’s primary load.

Highest efficiency on the market• Ultra-lightweight composite bearing system (ULC).

    • Snap fit Torlon bearings handle side loads.

    • Integral headspacer prevents sideplates from binding on sheave.

    • The wide sheave provides more bearing surface for maximum efficiency; allows a range a line diameters.

  • BATTCAR SWITCH SYSTEM

Our simple, but sophisticated award-winning switch systems have put the word “manageable”

back into mainsail control. These innovative systems offer smooth, low-friction operation

under the highest loads, and flake the sail automatically as cars are lowered.

Available in clear (silver) or black-anodized finishes.

Stack height cut in half making sail storage and halyard access easier

    • Cars drop alternately, automatically onto port and starboard storage tracks; locking headboard cars reduce halyard winch loads.

Trysail switch reduces weight aloft • Cars run on same primary track as

    mainsail; clean single-track system.

    Durable, corrosion resistant • Cars Hard Lube-anodized;

    track hardcoat-anodized.

    • Aluminum switch plate has no moving parts to break.

A reliable halyard lock is essential. Hanuman, Builder: Royal Huisman, Designer: Dykstra © Cory Silken photo

Halyard Locks New design handles high halyard loads

    • High-strength stainless steel pawls integrated into car, fit into high-load machined track wells.

    • High-load track sections located at full hoist and all reef points.

    Halyard lock engages/disengages easily

    • Pull line attached to pawl arm to engage lock.

    • Raise halyard slightly to disengage; pawls come free of lock wells.

Easy to inspect• Locking mechanics in car, not mast.

32 mm glue-on Switch T-Track • Bonds strongly to mast, stronger than bolt-on track.

    • Replaces 3-meter bolt-on T-Track sections.

    • Works with existing bolt-on track components.

    • Switch plate and cars.

    • Majority of track fasteners eliminated for a much lighter system.

  • Captive Reel WINCHES Designed for luxury sailing yachts, Harken captive winches are compact powerhouses that fit neatly into small belowdeck spaces. Traditionally, hydraulic motors have been preferred for their small size and high torque output. But as industry drives motor and battery development forward, new options have become available. Variable displacement hydraulic motors allow finer control. Electric motors with the same performance output as hydraulic are also available. Before shipping, each winch is calibrated and tested to its maximum working load, instilling confidence in every captive we supply.

Lightweight and low maintenance• Winch frame and drum are 6061-T6 hardcoat-anodized

aluminum; carbon-fiber gear cover reduces weight.

    • All parts connected to hydraulic or electrical circuitry, screw bearings, and gear transmission are positioned on the same side for easy access.

    • Bearings are sealed and lubricated with grease.

    • Main gearbox is sealed and lubricated with oil; good for the life of the captive.

    • Large-diameter feeder sheave reduces line stress.

  • S/Y Ganesha, 46m Sloop, Builder: Vitters Shipyard, Designer: Dubois, PM: Klaus & Sebastian Allebrodt © Ingrid Abery

Hydraulic motor• Captives are driven by industrial-sealed hydraulic motors.

    • Winches 6T and up are offered with variable-speed motors; loads to 70 tons.

    • 1.5 and 3T with fixed-displacement motors.

Electric motor• Captives are also available with electric motors.

    • Capable of matching hydraulic performance.

Dual sensors• Double electric sensors control the stroke of the feeder.

    • Double back-up mechanical sensors.

    • A laser sensor detects line overrides on the drum.

    • Optional load pin measures static and dynamic line loads.

Features Synchronized transmission• Synchronized transmission uses two gear sets (four gears) to drive the twin feeder screws.

    • Changing line diameters requires a simple change-out of gear sets.

Twin feeder screws• Feeder transmission’s twin feeder screws balance the load on the feeder.

    • Reduce the load on the nut and feeder guide, allowing moother movement and higher speed.

Manifolds Our manifolds feature counterbalance valve circuits to control loads while easing. Units can be customized to meet your specifications.

Timing optimized between winch and tensioner • Solenoid directional cartridge.

Smooth brake engagement • Flow-control valve.

Manual override • Brake valve supplied with a manual override knob.

  • Captive Winch LineTENSIONERS

Harken lightweight line tensioners provide hydraulically-powered pull to prevent

line slack and overrides. Both in-line and through-deck tensioners have

hydraulically driven belts encasing both sides of the line, doubling pull and grip

capabilities compared to other versions on the market. Tensioner manifolds are

independently plumbed and include a solenoid directional cartridge to optimize

tensioner functions. The pay-out circuit includes a pressure-release valve to adjust

tensioner pull force. The pay-in circuit includes a relief valve to control drag

    and to help prevent overrides.

    CT1: 90-degree tensioner – winches 3T to 9T • Mounts above or belowdeck. • Sealed roller bearing sheave. • Right hand/left hand mounting. • 80-degree to 120-degree line wraps. • Max Line Load: 9T

CT2: In-line tensioner – winches 3T to 25T • Two independently-powered rubber belts drive line off winch drum. • Belts self-align to line lead. • Carbon-fiber cover keeps tensioner clean and safe. • Max Line Load: 25T

CT3: 90-degree through-deck tensioner – winches 3T to 18T • 300 mm sandblasted sheave handles the load. • Synchronized rubber belt adds additional grip. • Sealed roller bearings are waterproof. • Stainless steel, anodized aluminum or carbon covers. • Max Line Load: 18T
