GRANTS Current NIH U01 TR001812-­01 (PI: Lemon, Allison, Saag, Harris) Strengthening Translational Research in Diverse Enrollment (STRIDE) This collaborative study between UMass Medical School, Vanderbilt and the University of Alabama at Birmingham is developing innovative approaches to enhancing informed consent procedures with a goal of improving research literacy among under-­served populations. This project is developing a multi-­level informed consent platform that integrates e-­consent with patient storytelling and simulations-­based research assistant training. Intervention The purpose of the present study is to conduct a non-­inferiority randomized controlled trial to demonstrate that an online social network-­delivered intervention can achieve efficacy that is not inferior to a traditional in person group-­based lifestyle intervention, but with lower cost. It also supports a research project that builds from local municipal efforts to revitalize the Union Hill neighborhood via targeted resource investments to improve crime and safety and economic development and built environment opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating. This study is testing the impact of a family-­focused community health worker-­delivered intervention to navigate their environment and utilize neighborhood improvements for physical activity and healthy eating opportunities.
