IGAD is a Sub-Regional Economic Community (REC) in the

Horn of Africa comprising of the countries of Djibouti, Eritrea,

Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda.

Duties and responsibilities :

Responsible for co-ordination of agricultural and environmental

protection policies as well as data on productivity; marketing and

agro-industries in the sub-region; identifying the fields of

agriculture, environment and energy with a view to promoting

information sharing among the member states, and developing

sub-regional programmes in agriculture and environment.

Specific TORs:

Harmonization of agricultural development, food

security, natural resources environmental protection and

energy policies.

Ensure co-ordination of member states agricultural

research programmes, early warning food information

systems and their developments.

Co-ordination of the collection and analysis of data on

productivity, marketing and agro-industries in the sub-

region for policy co-ordination and harmonization of

data.

Identification of areas of excellence in the fields of

agriculture, environment and energy and promote sharing

of such experiences among member states.

Development of sub-regional programmes and projects in

areas of natural resources, energy, food security and

environmental protection as well as identifying possible

sources of finance.

Responsible for co-ordination and direction of the

activities of all staff in the Division of Agriculture and

Environment.

Responsible for advising the Executive Secretary on

matters pertaining to agriculture, food security,

environment, natural resources and energy.
