using MOODLE e-learning software.
Blackboard Training Session, 2006.
This training session was designed to provide the basics of course design and delivery
using Blackboard e-learning software.
American Association for Respiratory Care Summer Forum, 1998-2005.
This annual meeting focuses on education and management as they relate to
respiratory care. Attendance has enabled me to remain current with respect
to issues, trends and advances in respiratory care education as well as to learn
innovative teaching strategies.
American Association for Respiratory Care World Congress, 1997-2004.
This annual meeting is the premier educational and research meeting for respiratory
care practitioners. Attendance has helped ensure that my teaching and research efforts
are current in the discipline, in addition to learning innovative teaching strategies.
Teaching Skills course conducted by the Department of Educational Resources and
Development, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1997.
Course to improve teaching abilities included the following topics: testing, measurement
and evaluation, teaching methods, use of instructional objectives, media and audiovisual
supplements to instruction, and learning activity design.
Doctor of Philosophy degree program, Molecular and Cellular Physiology,
Louisiana State University Medical Center School of Graduate Studies, Shreveport,
LA, 1992-1997.
Gained proficiency in use of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC),
spectrophotometry, differential centrifugation, light microscopy, DNA electrophoresis,
and animal surgery, including survival surgery requiring post-operative care and
monitoring, data and statistical analysis. Human physiology teaching assistantship
under the direction of a mentor served to enhance my teaching abilities.
Bachelor of Science degree program, Cardiopulmonary Science, Louisiana State
University Medical Center School of Allied Health Professions, Shreveport, LA,
1987-1992.
Education course was a required part of the curriculum and included the following
topics: principles of education, preparation and development for teaching, testing,
measurement and evaluation, teaching methods, lesson plan development, use of
instructional objectives, and media and audiovisual supplements to instruction.
Teaching practice included teaching cardiac anatomy and physiology, in addition to one
year as a teaching assistant in the clinical setting.
