Congratulations, GraduatesJessica Homol and Rachel Orndorf successfully completed the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Program at UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center. They spent the past year in an intensive lab training program combining practical instruction in lab procedures, with didactic instruction in clinical lab science subjects — laboratory education, blood bank, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. The graduates also passed a national certification exam for Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

UPMC’s CLS program is an important contributor in addressing the local and national shortage of lab professionals. In the last six years, UPMC Susquehanna had 23 program graduates, and of those, 15 have worked within the UPMC Susquehanna system. Our program has 100% graduation, certification exam pass, and employment rates.

Good work, Jessica and Rachel!

Recognizing Grateful Patients and Their Impact on CareHow to identify a grateful patient? A patient who …

• Brings cookies for the holidays• Offers to buy pizza for your team• Sends a thank you letter• Asks how they could ever repay you• Experiences life-saving or life-changing treatment• Expresses gratitude for the care received

What next: Ask them if you can connect them to a member of the Foundation.

Frequently grateful patients will want to make a contribution in recognition of the care they received. The impact their donations can have on your department are the ability to:

• Purchase state-of-the-art equipment • Cover certification fees• Pay for conference fees• Fund new programming• Replace outdated equipment

Be part of creating a culture of gratitude by connecting grateful patients to Susquehanna Health Foundation. The Foundation can be reached at 570-320-7460.

Friends Raising Funds for Residents at The Green HomeWith the help of community donations from this year’s Friends of Soldiers + Sailors campaign, The Green Home plans to purchase It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L) to augment the resident’s daily activities, and enhance their overall quality of life — both mentally and physically.

“The Green Home plays an important role in our community by caring for an aging population, post-surgery patients going through rehabilitation, and individuals with dementia,” said Janie Hilfiger, regional president, UPMC Susquehanna’s Northern Tier. “iN2L, combines touch screen computers with intuitive, picture-based software, and an extensive, continually updated content library to provide a personalized experience for each resident. It can be utilized for restorative therapy, family interaction, or leisure purposes, as well as in group settings or one-on-one.”

The goal of the campaign is $38,000 for the purchase of a customizable and mobile system. Thanks to Citizens & Northern Bank, your donation can go further as they provide $4,500 in matching funds toward the campaign. The campaign is off to a good start with more than half of the goal achieved.

Friends of Soldiers + Sailors share a special commitment to UPMC Susquehanna through an annual, tax-deductible membership gift of $100 or more. Membership funds are used to purchase vital equipment and expand community health programs in Tioga County.

The 2019 Friends of Soldiers + Sailors Committee includes Roger Bunn, Bonelyn Kyofski, Joseph R. Maresco, Maryann Maresco, Bev McKnight, Anne McNaight, June Rudy, Sue Sticklin, and Ann Vayansky.

To join, call Susquehanna Health Foundation at 570-320-7460 or visit UPMCSusquehanna.org/Donate.

Honor Your CaregiverThe Cole Foundation recently recognized UPMC Cole’s Eldred Health Center staff through the Honor Your Caregiver program. A donation was made by Christopher Ferraro to thank Amy Sorg, CRNP, and her team for the care he received over the past few weeks. Not only does Chris credit Amy for saving his life, but he also speaks volumes for the teamwork displayed by her staff. He states they went above and beyond with showing him love, compassion, and sincere concern that ultimately saved his life.

Thank you for providing excellent care to our patients every day!

Happy RetirementAfter 50 years of service at UPMC, Joseph English, MD, has retired, effective Dec. 5.

Dr. English founded the UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Divine Providence Campus Emergency Department, served as chief medical officer for the Divine Providence Campus during the UPMC merger, and was recognized as being a longstanding medical staff member for Occupational Medicine at the Divine Providence Campus and UPMC Susquehanna Muncy.

Thank you for your years of service!

Muncy Christmas SocialUPMC Susquehanna Muncy recently celebrated its 60th annual Christmas Social. The event is held every year, and hosted by the UPMC Susquehanna Muncy Auxiliary.

The Auxiliary is a very dedicated team committed to raising funds for, and celebrating with the hospital and its service partners to provide the best possible care for the surrounding community. This event in particular is a time for service partners to have cookies and cocoa, and enjoy each other’s company and is one of the favorite events of the year at the hospital. There was also a raffle for a $50 gift card, which was awarded to Abigail Potts, assistant administrator, Skilled Nursing.

A huge thanks to the Auxiliary for such a lovey time!

Changes Coming to Technical Support for UPMC Cole StaffThe way you access technical support will change on Monday, Jan. 13, along with your transition to using Infonet. With this change, Infonet will be your front door to the systems you use to access technical support. New processes will be in place for self-ticketing and contacting the Help Desk. A matrix to help you determine where to go for support based on your need or problem is available on Infonet.upmc.com. Search “Cole Support Matrix” on Infonet to access it.

Self-TicketingYou will no longer use KACE for tickets related to technology. Instead, you will use the IT Service Portal. You may have already used this system to request a cell phone or tablet. In the IT Service Portal, you can request:

• Non-urgent support for devices and clinical applications• Telephone and voicemail support• Hardware and software

Emails from the IT Service Portal with updates about your ticket or approval requests will come from “IT Service.” Access a job aid about using the IT Service Portal to get started. Search “IT Service Portal” on Infonet for more information and training materials.

Help DeskAdditionally, UPMC’s Help Desk will be your resource for technical problems and questions. You will continue to call extension 2264 when you need assistance, however the number you are used to will now connect you to the UPMC Help Desk. This transition gives you access to a centralized point of contact who will direct your ticket to the right team if your issue cannot be resolved during your interaction with the Help Desk.

You can reach the Help Desk by phone or use the Help Desk live chat feature to instant message with an agent. Chat can be utilized for non-urgent issues that do not impact patient care. Search “Help Desk Chat” on Infonet to access the instant messaging feature.

When you call the Help Desk, you will first hear announcements about any current known issues or outages. Then, you will have several options to make sure your question or request gets to the right place. For any issues not related to these options, stay on the line for the next available agent.

• Option 1: Use the interactive voice response (IVR) system to change your UPMC password or unlock your UPMC account. This allows you to complete this task without waiting for an agent.

• Option 2: Report a problem using Office 365 (email, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)

• Option 3: Report issues with the electronic health record system for Cerner.

• Option 4: Ask for assistance with EPIC.

If your question or request does not fall into any of the categories above, stay on the line, and a Help Desk agent will connect with you shortly to address your problem.

Contact [email protected] with questions.

Stay tuned to the UPMC Cole Yammer group to keep up to date with this transition. Search for “UPMC Cole” on yammer.com/upmc.edu to get to the group.
