200K users) > 2500 jobs Software Development (5.000 employees, mostly for export)

8 Call Centers (~ 1 700 op., 3 from telecoms) 24 local TV channels + 1 national + 3 sat. ~200 local radios

IT Training Status

Number of graduates: 5,000 per year Among them: 600 engineers

In IT: 50 engineers and 450 technicians

27 IT schools (9 public), 1 Cisco, 1 Linux, 3 Microsoft Certification centers

Basic IT knowledge is gradually introduced into most curricula

Cisco Certification Program at INATA

Cisco Certified Network Associate: CCNA 1: Networks basics CCNA 2: Routing basics CCNA 3: Commutation and Routing CCNA 4: Wan Technologies

Courses are inline and are completed by practical exercises (248h in total)

CCNA is an industry recognized certification that can be obtained after 6 to 18 months training

Major Issues

Energy: the non availability of electricity in most rural areas is slowing down the IT development

Training: we can’t even meet the current IT sector’s needs

Cost of communication: still too much satellite use

Strategy of Development

Infrastructure development Contents development: suited to the people and

supporting the businesses, both in malagasy and foreign languages (FR - EN)

e-Administration Training: within 10 years, 10M users of IT, we must produce

30K IT specialists to support the growth of the sector and the role of the country in the region

Action Plan

Infrastructure: finish up the national Backbone and enhance access

ICT for all: ICT villages, e-contents

e-Administration: 3 phases from the central offices to the regional and local communities

Training: increase the capacity of the training centers and focus on industry recognized certification programs, high speed network of the Universities

Development of an IT business park (Antanetibe)
