PRONOUNS
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of one or more nouns.
Subject Pronouns
A subject pronoun is a pronoun that is used as the subject of a sentence.
I we you you he, she, it they Jan and her mother are doing a job. They have rags and a mop.
Object Pronouns
An object pronoun is a pronoun that is used as the object of a verb.
me us you you him, her, it them Mother had some eggs. Mother cooked them.
Possessive Pronouns
A possessive pronoun is a pronoun that names who or what has something.
my, mine our, ours your, yours your, yours his, her(s), its their, theirs The red pen is mine. Len had his pen in his bag.
NOTE: It is a singular pronoun. Example: Jan has a fan. It is red. Its is a possessive pronoun. Example: The dog dropped its bone. It’s is a contraction for it is. Example: I have have a job at the lab. It’s a good job.

USING PRONOUNS
Find the pronouns in the following sentences. Underline the pronoun and circle the noun or nouns that it replaces. Example: My name is Kim. I am six years old.
1. Pam is a girl. She is my friend 2. Pam likes to jog. She jogs a lot.
3. Sam fed his hens.
4. Where are Ned and Sam? They are at the lab.
5. Ned and Sam went to the lab. They met father there.
There may be more than one noun or pronoun used in the following sentences. Mark them the same as the sentences above. Example: Meg put the bag down. She set it on the desk.
1. Mother and Jen had an egg. They cooked it for father.
2. Peg gave Father a map. He put it in the den.
3. Meg has six cats and Pam has six dogs. They have lots of pets!
