Research Projects Carried Out AbroadUSA:

1 - From 1986 to 1987: I was involved with Prof. Dr. Daniel Medina at Baylor

College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA in a research project dealt with the

use of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies to characterize

immunohistochemically normal and preneoplastic mammary tissue. We used

Page 7: CURICULUM VITAE - Assiut University · Web viewDAAD scholarship to the Institute fur Veterinar- Pathologie der Justus- Liebig- Universitat Giessen, Germany. 15/6/2001- 15/9/2001 Visiting

a wide variety of fixation protocols as well as antibodies to cell surface and

cytoskeletal proteins.

2 - From 1987 to 1988: I had been working with Prof. Dr. Gary Spitzer at M.D.

Andreson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. I was a project investigator

for screening of bone marrow for isolated epithelial tumor cells not detected

by classical methodology in breast cancer patients (bilateral bone marrow

biopsies and aspirates). We screened a large panel of monoclonal antibodies

to supplement the use of anticytokeratins antibodies. We developed an

immunohistochemical method, which showed no cross-reactivity or

background staining with normal bone marrow.

UK:

1- From 1994 to 1996: I was involved with Dr. Stuart Carter of the Vet. Med.

Science, Univ. of Liverpool, UK in a research project dealt with the

immunohistochemical characterization of the infiltrating T-lymphocytic series

in the joints of dogs affected with chronic rheumatoid arthritis.

2 - From 7/ 2003 to 9/ 2003: I was involved with Prof. C. Campbell and Dr. M.

El- Tanani at the Queen, s University of Belfast, NI, in a research project

aimed to define genes that might be associated with breast cancer

metastasis. In vivo studies were carried out using specimens from breast

cancer patients with follow up history. Osteopontin gene (OPN) was detected

in samples of primary breast carcinomas from a comparatively large group of

patients to assess its relationship with other potential prognostic factors like

estrogen and progesterone receptors and their association with patient death

from metastatic disease. Parallel in vitro studies were also done using

different mammalian cell lines like Rama37 and MCF- 7.

Germany:

1- From15/6/2001 to 15/9/2001: I was involved with Prof. Manfred Rienachar,

Institute fur Veterinar- Pathologie der Justus- Liebig- Universitat Giessen,

Germany, in a research project on human papillpma virus (HPV).

2- From 19/7/2005 to 19/9/2005: I was involved with Dr. Gille of the Neurology

Dept., Technical University of Dresden, Germany in a research project that

7

dealt with studying the effect of some neuroprotective drugs on the

dopaminergic neurons of Parkinsonian patients.

Current Research Projects

We are investigating the clinical applications of nanoparticles for treating of

some medical problems in experimental animals. Currently we study the

therapeutic effect of melatonin loaded nanovehicles for treating acute and

chronic gastrodudenal ulcers in mice by histopathological, biochemical and

molecular technicques.
