A 3 year project to co-ordinate the activities of the county and district
authorities, partners and other stakeholders in delivering
information and outcomes that will impact on and reduce levels of Fuel Poverty across the region

Project Drivers
Government figures state that in 2009, 4.6 million households in the United
Kingdom were in fuel poverty.
For every 1% increase in fuel prices, it is believed that 40,000 households fall
into fuel poverty.

The Institute for Public Policy Research said that 36,000 people died in the winter of 2008 - 2009
as a result of fuel poverty, which was a rise of 49% from the previous winter.

Many people who are in fuel poverty feel the only way that can reduce their winter energy bills is by stopping heating their homes. This has major health implications, and will have been the major factor in relation to excess
winter deaths in 2008-2009.
1. I can’t afford to pay my energy bills.
2. I cant afford to pay to insulate my home.
3. I live in rented property can I get it insulated?
4. I live in a very cold home.
5. I have an illness that gets worse when my home is cold.
6. What are my responsibilities as a landlord in keeping my properties warm and well insulated?
