Grove Furnace State Park is in a beau tiful mountain setting in southern Cumberland Valley. Pine Grove Furnace features two lakes, 25-acre Laurel Lake and 1.7-acre Fuller Lake, a historic area and the Appalachian Trail. Park amenities include: 4 miles of Hiking Trails, Biking, Picnic Tables/

2 Sitting astride South Mountain in southern Cumberland

Valley, Kings Gap Environmental Education Center offers a pano-ramic view of the valley. The park consists of 2,531 acres of forest and is open to the public year-round from 8am to sunset. Trails connect with three main day use areas: Pine Plantation Day Use Area, Pond Day Use Area and Mansion Day Use Area. Park amenities include: 20 miles of Hiking Trails, Picnic Tables/Pavilions, Orienteering, Hunting, Dog Training, Biking, Environmental Education Programs, Seasonal Concerts, Gardens, Parking, and Bird Watching. 3 Colonel Denning State Park, in north central Cumberland

Valley, is in Doubling Gap, so named by the “S” turn where Blue Mountain doubles back on itself. This feature may be seen from the Doubling Gap Vista in adjacent Tuscarora State Forest. The park has 273 acres of woodland and a 3.5 acre lake. Park amenities include: 18 miles of Hiking Trails with 3.5 miles in the park, Picnic Tables/Pavilions, Swimming, Orienteering, Fishing, Hunting, Ice-Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, Camping and Organized Group Tenting. 4 The Valley’s landscape offers beautiful vistas and scenic

views. In the fall months, make the short hike to Waggoner’s Gap Hawk Watch for views of the Valley and the hawk migration. Families will enjoy Pole Steeple’s .75-mile climb to a quartzite rock outcropping or, for a challenge, take on Flat Rock’s 2.5-mile rugged hike to a 180-degree view from atop a natural rock outcrop. 5 Home to the Conodoguinet Creek, Yellow Breeches Creek

and Susquehanna River, the Valley offers a variety of kayaking and boating opportunities down calming waters. You can also enjoy the scenic Children’s Lake by shallow-draft or electric motor boat. Don’t have your own boat? You can rent a replica of the row boats used in the 1900’s to use on Children’s Lake from TCO Fly Shop. Susquehanna Outfitters and Blue Mountain Outfitters also offer boat rentals, and Pine Grove Furnace State Park rents kayaks, canoes and paddle boats for use on Laurel Lake. 6 Cumberland Valley is a fly-fisher’s paradise with three of

the world’s most popular fly-fishing destinations – LeTort Spring Run, Yellow Breeches Creek and Big Spring Creek Greenway. Beginners will enjoy the catch-and-release sections at Yellow Breeches and Big Spring, while those looking for a challenge can try their skills at LeTort. 7 Bikers can get moving on the Valley’s scenic trails and in

our charming downtowns. Enjoy a leisurely ride on the 11-mile Cumberland Valley Rail Trail or explore the historic and bike-friendly town of Carlisle to uncover museums, art galleries, dining and more. 8 The Valley’s woodlands and fields make spotting common

game species like deer, squirrel and turkey easy. Boiling Springs Boiling Springs is recognized as an official

Appalachian Trail Community for the town’s commitment to providing a service to hikers & promoting the assets of the Appalachian Trail. Parking lot located on Bucher Hill Rd., Boiling Springs, 17007.

Portable toilet available in large gravel lot. Follow the AT blazes across Bucher Hill Road, along the famous fly-fishing stream Yellow Breeches Creek, then along Children’s Lake. Continue past the gazebo to the ATC. You can also head south on the AT, crossing a beautiful historic stone bridge, zig zagging through farm fields & taking a steady climb up South Mountain to Center Point Knob, the original midway point of the trail. The large holes you pass are from iron ore mining for the foundry located in the parking lot.

Parking, water spigot & portable toilet are available at this site. Cross the bridge on the pedestrian walkway to head south on the A.T. White blazes lead the way; double blazes indicates a turn or prominent landmark. Continue left into the woods along a wooden board-walk. Hike until you are ready to return to your vehicle. For an alternative hike, turn right & follow the trail along Conodoguinet Creek.

Starting in 1939, Williams Grove Speedway has been one of the top sprint car tracks in the country. The speedway is a ½ mile banked smooth clay oval with speeds reaching in excess of 100 mph. The racing season runs from March to October. The largest event, the World of Outlaws National Open pays over $225,000 in prize money. Season admission prices range from $15 to $45, discounted youth (Ages 13–20) $10–$20 and Kids 12 and under are always FREE. Special sanctioned races include the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, United States Auto Club, Super DIRTcar Series, All-Star Circuit of Champions, United Racing Club and the American Racing Drivers Club among others. Other racing divisions throughout the season include, 358 sprint cars, super sportsman, limited late models and street stocks. The speedway strives to be a family oriented facility by hosting School’s Out Night, the Math Fact Challenge and supporting many local and national charities.
