Note from Jeff Dannick, Executive DirectorAs I begin my third year, I continue to be honored and privileged to serve our community, our membership and our Board of Directors. As our new fiscal year begins (June 1), I would like to thank Jean Gurman and Allon Shiff, the two Board Presidents under whom I have served for the past two and a half years. Their leadership, and the leadership provided by past Presidents before them, has brought our agency and our community to where we are today, and positioned us for great things in the future. Now it is time for a new President to take the helm, and I am delighted to yield our “View from the Top” space to Connie Pesachowitz to share a few thoughts as she prepares to take on the presidency.

Jeff Dannick

President’s MessageAs the new President, I find myself reflecting on the past and looking forward to the future. I remember more than 25 years ago when this JCC was just a thought in the minds of a few courageous Jewish leaders in Northern Virginia. They— and the community— had the vision and ability to dream a dream and make it happen. Through passion and commitment to the growth of the Center, the bricks and mortar of our building have become a vibrant social service organization that is proud to serve the people of the Northern Virginia Jewish community. As we move into the future, it is time to dream a dream and think big again. The Jewish community has grown in population, geographic location and diversity. Program space in our building is at a premium. Under Allon Shiff ’s leadership, the Board and staff of the JCCNV began a strategic planning process which will continue into my term as President. The Board and staff, along

with community leaders from within the JCCNV, the greater Jewish community, and beyond, will craft a vision for the future of our agency and our community. To meet our needs, shape our vision and achieve our goals for the future, we will need to capture the same passion of the past, attract and engage volunteers, develop new leaders and move forward with a relevant vision.

To help us achieve this goal, a new and exciting program is being developed. Larry Vogel, former JCCNV President, Sandy Mitchell and Cindy Cohen (both former JCCNV Board members) have been working to develop the Growing Our Active Leadership (GOAL) Program, an eight-session ongoing program designed to nurture, inspire and groom lay leaders for the JCCNV. While learning about the Center’s history, challenges and operations, participants will be exposed to high level leadership skills such as strategic thinking and decision-making. The program will result in community-building, networking among participants, and increased connections to the JCCNV through education about its dynamics and functioning. Over multiple iterations of the program, GOAL will channel our community’s talent and energy into a group of active leaders. Our first group of participants will take part in the program this fall.

Over the next two years, I look to you to help the JCCNV Board of Directors, Jeff Dannick and the JCCNV staff, and myself to become the same courageous leaders that drove our growth in the past. The dreaming and the doing are up to us. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to meet you and to work with you to develop the Center’s dream of the future.

B’shalom,

Connie Pesachowitz

JCCNV ChaiLightsIt’s a Wrap! The Curtain Closes for the 2012-2013 Performing Arts SeriesNew to the Center, Dan Kirsch, JCCNV Cultural Arts Director, is anything but new to the theatre scene. In fact, Dan’s been in the biz since he was in high school, and his inveterate knowledge, expertise, and passion have played a major role in the success of our brand new JCCNV Performing Arts Series, which just wrapped up its first season.

Under Dan’s creative direction, we got intimate with Marilyn Hausfeld during her cabaret performance; enjoyed A Cappella concerts by Six13 and two select vocal ensembles from the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC; struggled alongside Asher Lev as he chose between his faith and love of art; were left speechless by the powerful EDGEWORKS Dance Theater performance; celebrated Woody Guthrie at our Hootenanny!; paid tribute to Stephen Sondheim with the Mason Cabaret; watched a battle of the wits at Clever Rachel; let our inner Tevye shine through at our Fiddler on the Roof Sing-Along; were totally Team Eleanor and Aaron at the production of Can I Really Date A Guy Who Wears A Yarmulke?; were swept off our feet by the Richmond Ballet II; got a little Wicked at our Stephen Schwartz cabaret; and reveled in themes of freedom during a classical music program by Virginia Virtuosi.

So, what can we expect for the upcoming 2013–2014 season? Stay tuned for the line-up, which will be announced later this summer.

JCCNV Dance Company— Top Scores for our Top Dancers! The JCCNV Dance Company has once again brought us such naches (joy)! In March, our Yofi and Yafa dancers competed in the Showbiz National Talent Competition held at Freedom High School in Woodbridge. The Yofi dancers received first place in their category; while our Yafa dancers took first place in their category in addition to receiving second place overall in their category and age division! Please join the Center in congratulating the dancers on receiving such high honors — Mazel Tov!

Think you’ve got what it takes? Auditions for the 2013–2014 JCCNV Dance Company will be held at the end of August. See page 14 or contact the Dance Department for more information.

J Fest On December 25, more than 500 children and adults came to the Center for an exhila-rating day filled with moon bouncing, mask making, cookie decorating, paper airplane aviating, and carnival game playing. Wishes and dreams for 2013 were drawn and writ-ten on a 10 foot mural; guests sang with Lisa Hershaft; and kids played Simon Says with our Executive Director, Jeff Dannick. When all was said and done, our guests left with painted faces, fun prizes, and, with more than 300 slices of pizza served – full bellies!

G.I.R.L.S. Wellness ProgramGiving Back. Independence. Ruach (spirit). Leadership. Strength. In March, the JCCNV launched a brand new pilot program developed to inspire, educate, and encourage life-long healthy habits, positive thinking, and character building for girls in grades 4–6 in our community. The program combined physical activity, team building, tikkun olam (repairing the world) through social action, and nutri-tion and lifestyle education into a fun and exciting after-school activity. The program was a huge success, as 16 girls from all over Northern Virginia participated!

The G.I.R.L.S. Wellness Program was under-written by Arbonne Charitable Foundation.

Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia

Due to the generous support of our donors, the JCCNV is able to provide quality programs, activities and services to a diverse and growing community. Below, we highlight one program that could not exist without the financial support of our community.

JCCNV-JAFI Community Shlichim Program: Six Years of Bringing Northern Virginia and Israel Closer Together

Israel is central to the story of the Jewish people: It is the birthplace of our religion and the land of our shared history. As Americans, we appreciate Israel’s strength, and resilience, and applaud her commitment to democratic and principled governance. At the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia, support for Israel is central to our mission.

This spring, we celebrate Israel’s 65th anniversary and wonder what her future might hold. This spring, we also celebrate six years of creating meaningful connections between Northern Virginians and Israel’s people, history, traditions, and culture through personal interactions with our shlichim (emissaries) and a wide variety of programs. Since 2007, the Center has hosted three fascinating, creative, and passionate Israeli emissaries through the JCCNV-JAFI Community Shlichim Program: Shiri Rahamim (2007-2009), Michaela Cohen (2009-2011), and Yael Ingel (2011-2013.) Each emissary (shlicha) brought a unique perspective to the position and became a valued member of our family. We eagerly await the arrival of our next emissary this fall and look forward to celebrating many more milestones together in the future!

The JCCNV-JAFI Community Shlichim Program thrives today because of a visionary group of leaders who helped launch the program and the generous contributions of community members and institutions that recognize the value of our program. These special donors are listed on page 12 and we invite you to join them with your support.

What is your favorite aspect of the JCCNV and why?My husband and I live in Ashburn which makes it difficult for us to take part in many of the wonderful offerings at the JCCNV. I am always impressed by the variety of the programming, especially in the Adult Services Department. I also appreciate the outreach to local synagogues and the programs offered through this endeavor.

Why is volunteering at the JCCNV important to you?My volunteer work at the JCCNV is on the planning committee for the Positive Aging Fair. I have already been involved in three of the Fairs and the November 2013 event will make it four. It is hard work but each year the Fair has gotten better and better. I have met and worked with wonderful people, especially the staff in the Adult Services Department. I take great pride in what we have all accomplished. It is wonderful to be involved in this successful program.

Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia

Your Complete Mind, Body and Spirit Center.

Thanks in great part to our members, foundations, corporate sponsors and friends, the Center continues fulfilling its commitment to this community to provide a comfortable atmosphere rich in Jewish family traditions. We encourage you to think about the Center when making your charitable-giving plans.

Become a Member of the Trustee Circle or Chai SocietyDues and program fees cover less than 80% of the JCCNV’s annual operating expenses. We depend on the generous philanthropy of individuals, corporations and foundations to ensure our financial sustainability. Donating more than two-thirds of the funds raised throughout the year, Trustee Circle and Chai Society members are the cornerstone of the Center’s ability to build a strong community based on Jewish values.

The Trustee Circle: Donors in the Trustee Circle donate a minimum cash gift of $3,000 or more annually. This special visionary group of leaders understands the importance of the JCCNV to our Jewish community and the fact that none of our extraordinary programs would be possible without a financially sound operation.

Chai Society: By joining the Chai Society, members are demonstrating their understanding that the life of the JCCNV depends on our ability to financially support our general operations in addition to programmatic support. The Chai Society is made up of a special group of donors who give at least $1,800 to our General Operating Fund, allowing us to utilize the funds to best meet the needs of the Center. To augment their general operating support, many members of the Chai Society choose to contribute supplementary dollars to the programs about which they are most passionate. Chai Society members are also named as Trustee Circle members when their contributions equal or exceed $3,000 annually.

To learn more about our donor societies, contact Jeff Dannick, JCCNV Executive Director, at (703) 537-3023 or [email protected]. To learn more about other giving opportunities, please contact Michelle Pearlstein, Development Coordinator, at (703) 537-3033, or [email protected].

Give CashCash gifts allow the Center to use funds where they are most urgently needed. You may also designate your gift for a specific purpose, or you may make it in honor or memory of a person or an occasion through the tribute program. A special card will be sent to recognize your tribute gift.

Mitzvah Cards/Retail ScripThe JCCNV receives a percentage of every dollar that you spend at Giant, Safeway and Shoppers Food Warehouse along with many other retail stores. When you enroll in the monthly grocery scrip program, we will order your card (minimum $100) at the store of your choice and send it to you with an invoice each month.

By enrolling in the monthly program, you can add cards from hundreds of participating stores to your order at any time on a month-to-month basis. Orders are placed on the 15th of each month and arrive within four business days. Visit www.shopwithscrip.com and then go to the shop to see a full listing of stores.

One-time orders are also accepted. Contact Carla Rosenfeld at (703) 537-3060 or [email protected] or submit the order form, available online at www.jccnv.org or in the JCCNV lobby.

Donate a Used CarDonate now and help the JCCNV accomplish its mission. Your donation is tax-deductible. Free towing wherever the car is—as is. You can download the car donation form on our website or request one from our reception desk at the JCCNV.

Find out if your Employer has a Matching-Gift ProgramIn many cases, your cash contribution becomes twice as valuable. It’s usually quick and easy; just complete your company’s form and your gift to the Center will be matched. (Sample companies that match are Exxon-Mobil and IBM.)

Give through the Combined Federal Campaign or United WayThe JCCNV is a participant in the United Way and Combined Federal Campaign annual campaigns. When you make your United Way/CFC gift through your employer, please designate the JCCNV: United Way #8437 / CFC #8198.

Transfer Appreciated AssetsStocks or other investments that have been held for more than one year and have grown in value can provide a substantial gift to the Center at a low net cost to you. The full value of your appreciated asset is tax-deductible and you can avoid paying tax on the gains.

Give Insurance/IRAs/Retirement FundsIf you no longer need a life insurance policy, IRA or other retirement fund, consider giving it to the Center. Even if you are still paying premiums on an insurance policy, it can be given to the Center; you may take an income-tax deduction when the Center is named owner and beneficiary. Alternately, you may choose to set up a new life insurance policy naming the JCC of Northern Virginia as beneficiary, ensuring support for the Center in the future. Establish an Endowment FundBy establishing an endowment fund at the JCCNV, you will be assured that the programs and services you most care about will endure. You may name the endowment fund and designate which area of the Center will benefit. Once the endowment fund reaches a minimum of $10,000, the fund will be formally established.

Make a BequestCreate a legacy for your community by naming the JCCNV as a beneficiary in your will or insurance policy.

Volunteer Through the JCCNV Volunteer Corps If you have the time or expertise to lend a hand for the JCCNV, your help is needed and would be much appreciated! Please visit jccnv.org or contact Carla Rosenfeld at (703) 537-3060, or [email protected].

Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia

What do an interfaith couple in Leesburg, a young Jewish professional on U Street and an Orthodox family in Silver Spring have in common? Each has personal connections to Jewish food, culture and tradition—whether it’s an age-old family challah recipe, a vegan Passover Seder meal, or bagels and lox on Sunday morning.

Introducing The Jewish Food ExperienceInspired by Tradition. Delivered with a Twist.jewishfoodexperience.com

The Jewish Food Experience (JFE) provides a new destination for food lovers to gather, share, learn, taste, experience and interact together at interesting programs and on a dynamic new website, jewishfoodexperience.com, focused on Jewish food served up in a new and modern way. “With food being such a significant part of Jewish culture, tradition and even religion, what better way to convene the Jewish community here in DC than with food? Food is a shared experience, and we expect this new project will provide opportunities for local Jews to not only experience food with family and friends old and new, but also engage in the Jewish community in a deeper way.” stated Steven A. Rakitt, Chief Executive Officer of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington whose United Jewish Endowment Fund has generously funded and developed this project.

At jewishfoodexperience.com, local “foodies,” including chefs, restaurateurs, wine experts, food critics and writers, continuously share exciting news, recipes and stories with a uniquely local focus. The site presents Jewish food with modern twists and international flavors.

Content includes holidays and occasions, the lively local Jewish food scene, volunteer efforts to fight hunger, food-related events and, of course, delicious recipes that include vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs. JFE provides opportunities for community members to create shared moments around food through online activities as well as at off-line events and programs, including tastings, hands-on volunteer opportunities, book signings, cooking series, films and more.

Joan Nathan, JFE Advisory Committee Member, TV producer/host and author of 10 cookbooks including Jewish Cooking in America describes her involvement in JFE, “I have always believed in the power of food to bring people together, and nowhere is it more true and important than in the Jewish community. Whether preparing food, eating it or even reading about it, Jewish food evokes powerful memories for many of us. Hopefully this new initiative, the Jewish Food Experience, will reach out and bring even more people together. I am happy to be involved in the project on the JFE Advisory Council.”

Throughout the U.S. and AbroadJCCNV memberships are valid at many of the 375+ Centers located throughout the United States and abroad. If you are travelling to another city, be sure to contact a JCCNV membership administrator for a letter of introduction to take along with you.

New to the Area? At the JCCNV, we would like to welcome you to our Center and make your move as easy as possible. Members of JCCs and YMHAs from other cities are considered members of the JCCNV for three months, or until their membership expires, whichever comes first.

Photo-ID Membership CardsAt the JCCNV, the safety of our members and guests is our top priority. When joining our Center, each JCCNV member (over the age of 11) will be issued a Photo-ID Membership Card that is required to gain entry throughout the building. When entering the Center, you’ll notice the security guard desk straight ahead and the front desk to your left. Please be sure to scan your membership card at the scanning station found at either of the two desks each time you enter the building.

ID cards may be requested for individuals who are authorized to regularly pick-up children from the JCCNV Early Childhood Learning Center and School-Age programs.

The ID scan system is also a useful tool in acquiring information about our building. By tracking how and when our Center is being used, we are able to evaluate our facilities and programs to ensure we are meeting the needs of our members.

Lost and Damaged Membership CardsReplacement of membership cards is handled at the front desk or with the Membership Department. A $20 replacement fee is charged for lost/misplaced and damaged cards. Directory of Jewish Artists and ArtLooking to buy a piece of Jewish art to add to your collection? Or are you an artist looking to sell your fine art pieces? The JCCNV maintains a directory of Jewish artists and art that brings together buyers and sellers of all art media.

If your collection feels incomplete, or are looking for a truly special gift, visit our online directory at www.jccnvarts.org. From photography to glass sculptures, still life paintings to hand-crafted wood pieces, and decorative rugs to pottery, you’re sure to find something in our directory that’ll whet your fine art needs.

Artists and/or suppliers who would like to be listed in the directory, please visit www.jccnvarts.org to review the criteria and submit your listing. With more than 3,000 visitors to our site each month, our directory is a great way to expose your art to the Jewish community and beyond.

ExhibitsThe Bodzin Art Gallery continues to feature many local artists in an effort to support the creative talent in our tri-state area.

Celebrating our Children’s Creativity May 28–June 17The JCCNV’s Early Childhood Services department presents “A Reggio Exhibit” which showcases the special philosophy of teaching art being used by the program. Beginning in Reggio, Italy after WWII and based upon the ideas that children have a say over the direction of their learning, children use all their senses, relating to each other and the exploration of materials, and by being encouraged with endless ways of expressing themselves. A large part of the philosophy centers on the use of art and materials.

The Early Childhood Learning Center’s (ECLC) annual exhibit of children’s work from the 2012–2013 school year focuses on long-term topic studies from classes ranging from infants to four years of age, showcasing the projects that come out of the “Atelier” (French meaning workshop). The ECLC is using it in the English context for working in a small group under an artist. Our modern “Atelier method” is a variant of fine art instruction taking place in an inviting art room that provides a wonderful place for children to explore their creative side under the guidance of our professional artist, Sarah D. Samuels Vejvoda, Atelierista.

The Reggio Emelia Atelier program is partially funded by Target Corporation.

Summer SpotlightAnnual Open Exhibition with JCCNV Members and StaffJune 18–August 12The arts are an integral part of life here at the Center. Our annual open exhibition spotlights the many talents of our own creative community. JCCNV members and staff are invited to display their artwork in the Bodzin Gallery. Whatever your medium — drawings, oils, watercolor, fiber arts, ceramics, beads, etc., we’d love to put it on display! Visit www.jccnvarts.com for submission details.

MissionThe JCCNV Dance Academy is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment where dancers of all skill levels may embrace this remarkably expressive art form. The program is based on cooperation, appreciation and dedication to the art of dance.

Statement We look forward to helping instill confidence and grace through comprehensive dance training. Based on cooperation, appreciation and dedication to the art of dance, our program is designed to take students from their first movement class through a comprehensive dance curriculum. We are pleased to offer ballet, tap, modern, jazz and hip-hop dance instruction for children and adults of all ages and abilities.

Because dance is a discipline and we want our students to reach their highest potential, we expect our participants to give 110% all of the time. While we encourage our students to develop relationships and friendships with their peers, they are expected to listen, learn and enjoy moving through space while class is in session.

ScholarshipsThe cost of a dance education in the Washington, DC metropolitan area is significant. At the JCCNV, we believe that everyone should be able to have dance in their life. Each year we fundraise, collect donations, and set aside funds in order to assist a few deserving families with the expenses associated with our program. The JCCNV Dance Academy is hoping to receive sponsorships from families and corporations to help fund the scholarship program.

The annual cost for a student to participate in one hour of dance each week is about $1,000. Please help us to provide positive arts experiences here at the Center by sponsoring a scholarship. Note: if you commit to funding one scholarship for a minimum of five years, the JCCNV Dance Academy will name the scholarship after you, your family or your business. This is a great way to honor your commitment to making quality dance programs in Northern Virginia accessible to all.

Our Philosophy of LearningThe Early Childhood Learning Center strives to help each child grow as an individual. We emphasize the development of self-confidence and a positive self-image. Our activities provide experiences to foster social skills and emotional maturity and to strengthen cognitive and physical growth. Play is a child’s work. Play provides the opportunity for children to explore their world, find out how to get along with others, strengthen their muscles, try new activities, build self-confidence and enhance self-esteem. Play is how the young child develops the necessary skills and social competencies that will be needed as he/she grows and matures.

The primary goal of our Infant/Toddler Program is to provide each child with the best of care in a clean and nurturing environment. Our staff works to encourage each child in every stage of his or her social and emotional growth as well as to support and strengthen language and cognitive development. The daily routine is set up to provide stimulating experiences for children to learn and explore their environment through their own curiosity.

Our teaching philosophy follows a Reggio-Emilia inspired philosophy that is based on the following ideas:

Children have a say over the direction of • their learningChildren are able to learn through • experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearingChildren have a relationship with other • children and material items to exploreChildren have endless ways and • opportunities to express themselves

Our philosophy involves an emergent curriculum that builds on the interests of the children. Topics of study are chosen through discussion/observations of children, community or family events, interests of the children, and teacher-directed provocations. The curriculum provides hands-on learning experiences, areas for children to experiment with the natural world, and real-life problem-solving with opportunities for creative thinking.

An Ethical Start®

The JCCNV Early Childhood Learning Center is proud to be An Ethical Start® school. This curriculum for early childhood is based on Pirkei Avot: Ethics of the Fathers. This classic text has been studied for almost 2,000 years because it contains practical advice for daily living. Using a comprehensive approach, An Ethical Start® helps teachers and parents support children’s emotional and social development and raise children with the timeless values of Jewish tradition. And it’s all a lot of fun because An Ethical Start® makes the ethical dimensions of Judaism accessible with Peer K. Explorer® and his study partner Dafna® — the irresistible, adventurous characters who appear in the program’s music, books and more.

Use It Or Lose It! Paula Cole, SFA Director

Mahatma Gandhi said “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” It is difficult to argue the truth of this statement, but it is also difficult to live by it as a reality. Many people find it difficult to stick with fitness goals. Motivation is within each of us. Find that motivation tip that works for you.

What motivates me to stay fit? I want to always be able to enjoy working in my garden and playing with my 4-legged family members. I strive to not depend on using an electric car to get around at the supermarket. A basic rule of thumb to always remember, if you don’t use muscles or your brain, then the body will decide that they are no longer needed.

If you really want to reach your exercise, nutrition and health, training and fitness goals, then it’s time to write down clear, specific and measurable goals and commit to them. Goals

are yours and only yours and should include elements such as:

Specific• Measurable• Achievable• Relevant• Thrilling!•

Your mind is a powerful thing. Taking charge of your thoughts can prove to be a very effective way of staying motivated to work out. Use motivational words before, during and after a workout. When not exercising, read motivational quotes in books or online. Consider keeping encouraging words or items with you on your t-shirt, backpack, water bottle or even your jewelry.

Remember, when setting your goals, make sure they include the elements that will help you be successful. We will help you achieve them. Whether you want to try a new class, learn to swim, complete a half IronMan triathlon, lose 10% body fat, lower your blood pressure, or even workout 5 times a week — YOU CAN DO IT!

Gymnasium RentalThe JCCNV gymnasium is available for rental on an hourly basis. Please contact Matt Alvin at [email protected] or (703) 537-3050 for rates and available time slots.

Fitness Boxing TrainingJCCNV members onlyFitness Boxing is a whole body workout that takes the best aspects of workouts used by some of the world’s most finely conditioned athletes — boxers. It combines them into a fitness program that is safe for the mainstream exercise devotee, which means you will train like a boxer in everything but full contact sparring. It works most of the human body’s physiological systems. The musculoskeletal system becomes stronger through specialized resistance exercises and boxing specific equipment drills. The cardiorespiratory and vascular systems become more efficient through workouts that are more than 60% anaerobic. The central nervous system is trained to respond faster and more efficiently to punching combination drills. So if you are looking for something different in a workout, fitness boxing may be for you. Braddock Road: Traveling the Route of Westward ExpansionThursday, June 6, noon–2pm, JCCNVNoon: Lunch (bring dairy or parve)12:30pm: ProgramPresented by Michael T. Kelly, National Park Service Ranger and Coordinator of the National Mall and Memorial Parks Interpretive Outreach Program, Division of Interpretation and Education. The Braddock Road that currently traverses Northern Virginia takes its name from a much earlier road with direct connections to two 18th century world wars that decided the fate of North America. The roots of American independence therefore lie along the Braddock Road. Could the Braddock Road also be the reason for why George Washington selected this area for the new capital of the United States? It certainly played a role. The old road later emerged as a major artery of migration for pioneers who helped lead the young nation into the West. Come learn more about our famous connection to the creation and growth of the United States of America. Coffee, tea, and dessert provided. Fee: $3/ Free JCCNV member No RSVP – Just come!

After the county seat was moved in 1721 to Upper Marlboro, Mount Calvert became a typical southern Maryland plantation. The existing federal period house was built by John Brown in 1789.

Since 1996, The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission archaeologists have been piecing together images of life at Mount Calvert to offer visitors the opportunity to observe and participate in the discovery of Mount Calvert’s diverse past.

So if you have old cell phones at home, you can now recycle them. Please let others know about this endeavor. And, as always, we appreciate your support.

Jewish Heritage Video CollectionThe Jewish Heritage Video Collection is partially underwritten in memory of George Elpern and the Video Library Fund.

The JCCNV maintains a comprehensive video library of more than 200 films with Jewish content, thanks to the Jewish Heritage Video Foundation. The collection ranges from light comedies to “Schindler’s List” and “Shine” as well as a large selection of foreign, Holocaust and children’s films.

There are also study guides for educators dealing with topics such as assimilation, anti-Semitism, Jewish identity, intermarriage, Jewish humor and Jewish love and marriage. These are available, with accompanying videos, free of charge to schools, synagogues and church groups. For more information, contact Pam Wiener at (703) 537-3061, [email protected].

LibraryThe library is partially underwritten by the Lynne Ran and Eleanor Finkelstein Library Fund.

The JCCNV library is located in the adult lounge. Browse through our extensive selection of fiction and nonfiction books with Judaic themes. The library is open to members during building hours, unless in use, and operates on the honor system. To check out a book, fill out a card with your name and phone number and leave it at the front desk. Return the book to the front desk.We accept donations of gently used books, which we sell to raise funds to purchase new books for our library. No periodicals, please.

Please Help! The JCCNV Is Missing Library Books! If you have library books that you are no longer using, please return them to the front desk. Thank you.

JCCNV PoliciesRefund PolicyFull cash refunds will be given if the JCCNV cancels an activity due to insufficient enrollment. Cancellation prior to the first day of the session will incur a $7 handling charge that is deducted from any refund. No refunds will be processed for one-time programs after the program has begun.
