+Defining “cultural corridor” “Districts with distinctive cultural character defined by
immigrant populations.” Provide support and services for immigrant
communities, via a variety of different commercial businesses/non-profits, etc.
Often arise due to concentration of businesses and/or peoples of a certain group in an area.
Policy question: “What [else] makes a cultural corridor?” Whose interest do they serve? Does this change over time?
For purposes of this assignment, will only be looking at corridors that have been “recognized” by the City of Los Angeles.

+ Little Ethiopia
Began forming in the 1990s as Ethiopian restaurants, markets, and assorted service shops began to gather in the area.
Officially recognized by the City of Los Angeles in 2001 (?).
Los Angeles is home to the second largest group of Ethiopians living in the U.S. behind Washington, DC.
The Ethiopian population in LA county is unofficially estimated at over 60,000.

ACR 126 recognized corridor. Authored by Assembly Member Mike Davis. (2010)
Approximately half a million Salvadorans live in the City of Los Angeles, 100 thousand near the corridor alone.
“Provide existing and future business and property owners with a variety of community services and improvements to help boost the economic livelihood, improve social cultural well-being of the area and encourage economic pride.”
