REPORT TO THE PEOPLE2017–2018

CultivatingExcellence

My first school year at the helm of Lexington County School District One is complete,

and I am very proud of the many student and staff success stories we have this year.

This Report to the People highlights just a few of the accomplishments achieved during

the 2016–2017 school year and offers a snapshot of the district, student demographics,

assessment results, financial information, etc.

Lexington District One soared in academics, leadership, science, technology, world

languages, the arts, and athletics. We expect our students to continue achieving as their

dedicated teachers work hard preparing them to be global citizens.

� Collected hats, gloves, mittens and socks for Lexington Interfaith Community Services

� Wrote and mailed approximately 500 letters and holiday cards to veterans

� Collected games, snacks and toiletries for patients at William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Hospital

� Raised $300 for Down Syndrome Society during Buddy Walk

� Collected 87 items for the Sea Turtle Service Project

� Collected 912 shoes for Shoes4Water

� Donated $42,685 to United Way of the Midlands

� Donated clothing, food, books and money to students and staff who lost belongings in house fires

� Student choirs and orchestras spread joy at local nursing homes and Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital

� Collected toiletries for the Central Midlands Transitional Retreat, a transitional home for veterans

� Collected plastic bags and created plarn, or plastic yarn, for residents at a local senior center to weave into mats for homeless individuals

� Composed original music and filmed music video to spread an anti-bullying message

� Administrators raised $1,360 by participating in the “Freezin’ for a Reason” Special Olympics Lake Murray Polar Plunge

� Donated $659 during the “Pennies for Books Beyond our Borders” penny drive, resulting in 39 books for a library in Guatemala

� Donated 120 items such as dog food, cat food, toys for the animals, leashes and collars to local animal shelter

� Raised approximately $26,000 during Jump Rope For Heart

� Volunteered at Lexington Kid’s Day by passing out bottled water

� iCivics students volunteered 4,680 hours helping teachers with classroom tasks

� Collected 131 coats during the “Coats for Kids” coat drive

� Baked cookies and created cards for local first responders

� Purchased school supplies for teacher goody bags for Teacher Appreciation Week

� Clinical students volunteered 44 hours at an extended care facility

� Adopted approximately 360 families, providing them with gifts at Christmas

� Donated $156,136 to the Lexington District One Educational Foundation’s LEAP campaign

� Collected $200 during school Wax Museum for the Lexington County Museum

� Beta Club and JROTC students picked up trash along Highway 302 near PHS on two occasions

� Donated approximately 5,700 pounds of food to Lexington Interfaith Community Services

� Packed 1,050 boxes of food at Harvest Hope Food Bank for those in need

� Donated approximately $110,000 to Relay For Life
