1 What would summer program look like if we wiped the slate clean and had three great proper6es at our disposal? How can we provide the best staff to put on those great programs for ALL of our Scouts? How can we ensure that each of our camp proper6es is relevant and important to Units, families, and the community? These are the ques6ons that drove the planning for summer camp programs at Firelands Scout Reserva6on, Beaumont Scout Reserva6on, and Camp S6gwandish. We talked to countless former staff members, volunteers, various commiIees, Scouters, Scouts, and professional staff to determine the struggles and strengths of each of the proper6es and the feedback we received drove the vision further. We learned that Firelands is highly regarded at great camp for first and second year Scouts, and has all the facili6es and size to make a premier Cub Scout Camp. We learned that Beaumont has been aIrac6ng more and more Troops over the last 5 years, and older Scouts never run out of new things to do there. We learned that S6gwandish is a truly gorgeous property and has a rus6c quality and unique loca6on that makes it perfect for Outpost Programs. We learned that Cub Scout programs have largely been neglected, needing to be revamped and a dedicated staff to make them great. This and more we learned from across our new council. Taking all that into account, we present the summer resident program plan for Scou6ng in Northeast Ohio! Firelands Scout Reserva6on will hire a full staff for two months of program at both Camp Wyandot and Camp Avery Hand. FSR will serve as the home for Cub Scout programs including Day Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Webelos Explora6on Camp, and Family Resident Camp! Beaumont Scout Reserva6on will be the epicenter for Boy Scout summer camp, and has added a 5 th week to its repertoire. Camp S6gwandish will see a return of Day Camp to its trails, as well as provide many Outpost Programs for the Boy Scouts aIending Beaumont all summer long! Venturers and Explorers can also find at home at Beaumont and S6gwandish for older Scout programs they provide there. These decisions were not lightly made and have had the best interests of the Scouts and Units, Scou6ng Family-wide, at heart. However, we recognize that change is always difficult, and we hope to ease that transi6on in several ways. First, are working with Troops who had already made reserva6ons for Firelands to move the corresponding week at Beaumont, or to find a next-best alterna6ve week. Further, our guarantee stands: If our staff does not meet or exceed your unit’s expecta:on for an excep:onal summer program, we will pay your deposit to the camp of your choosing next summer. We believe strongly that every Scout deserves and excep6onal program, and that this plan will sa6sfy that need. We are always welcome to receive feedback, and that can be given to the Outdoor Adventures Team at [email protected] or at the Cleveland Service Center at 216.861.6060.
