California State - Title 5 Regulation
Two types of Alternative Methods for Awarding of Credit processes established for CA Community Colleges:
High School Course Articulation (§55050)
Credit by Examination (§55051)
High School Articulation
What is Articulation?
Student completes HS coursework in lieu of the college course
Appears on college transcript as articulation instead of letter grade
Unlikely to be accepted by universities as transferable
Not offered as an option by the San Diego Community College District
High School Credit by Examination
What is Credit By Exam?
College credit awarded based on student’s performance on an examination
Content of exam reviewed and approved solely by college faculty in the discipline
Appears on college transcript as course with grade
Possibly accepted by universities as a transferable college course
Currently offered by the San Diego Community College District

CTE Transitions Credit Certification Procedures
Teacher and Student Procedures
1.Teacher sets up CATEMA account and adds new class
*CTE Office must “Approve” before your students can enroll
1.All students register and enroll in CATEMA
2.Student completes course and exam with grade of A or B
3.Teacher enters all student grades into CATEMA and recommends credit
4.Teacher prints and signs class roster* Send roster to SDCCD CTE office

CTE Transitions Staff must “approve” your account before you can move forward!

Student Competency/Grading
Teachers must input: 1. Exam Grade 2. Course Grade 3. Credit Recommendation
Student Certification
ProceduresEffective 2014
No later than 18 months after high school graduation
Student completes SDCCD online college application
Students should not submit more than one online application
Student submits petition form and
official high school transcript to SDCCD CTE Transitions Office

CTE Transitions office submits student forms to Student Services
College Credit is recorded on student's permanent college transcript
All students enrolled in CATEMA are emailed credit certification and college transcript request procedures
