Incomparable Barcelona! Led by Courtney Harris Tuten November 8-14, 2020 Day 1, Sunday, November 8, 2020: We depart from New York City’s JFK Airport on American Airlines for our flight to Barcelona, Spain. M Day 2, Monday: We arrive in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, a fascinating Mediterranean cosmopolitan city with Roman remains, medieval quarters, and the most beautiful examples of 20 th century Modernism and avant-garde art and architecture. After meeting our local guide, we set out on an orientation drive around Barcelona to familiarize ourselves with this beautiful city. In order to stretch our legs and get some fresh air, our first stop is Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site designed by one of Barcelona’s most famous artists, Antoni Gaudí. The park is composed of gardens and architectural elements located on Carmel Hill with an amazing view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. We continue to our hotel for check in and some free time before we gather for a “Welcome to Barcelona” dinner at a local restaurant. We return to our hotel for overnight. D Day 3, Tuesday: We enjoy breakfast before we meet with our local expert and start our walking tour through the narrow, winding streets of the Gothic quarter. We visit Santa Maria del Pi, an impressive 14 th century Catalan Gothic Cathedral, one of the finest and most historic buildings in the city. We continue walking through the quiet streets of the old town and stroll down Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s main and most famous boulevard. We end at the vibrant market known as La Boquería, which is the central market of Barcelona and is considered one of the best in the world. Here, we savor Catalonian tapas for lunch. We have the afternoon and evening free to explore the Gothic quarter, famous for its shopping and people watching. BL DAY 4, Wednesday: After breakfast, we enjoy an extensive visit to Gaudi’s masterpiece, La Sagrada Família, Barcelona’s most iconic landmark. Construction of this unconventional yet grand basilica began in 1882 and still continues today. The stunning interior of the basilica is an imposing and ingenious design. In the same way that the façades are rich in symbolism, the layout of the church is also full of symbols. Every door, every column, and almost every area has its own symbolic significance. Pedrera, or the stone quarry, which is the last private residence designed by Gaudí. Built between 1906 and 1912, the building is loved for its unique shape and façade, winning it the ultimate plaudit as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a cultural center, as well as a symbol of Catalan

Modernism and the Catalan Art Nouveau period. We have the rest of the day to explore this magnificent city and dinner on our own tonight. B DAY 5, Thursday: This morning, we visit Montjuïc, the magic mountain and the setting of some of Barcelona’s grandest celebrations including the International Exhibition of 1929 and the Olympic Games in 1992. We ride cable cars to the top and marvel at the amazing views of the city below. We tour El Poble Espanyol, the Spanish Village, a craft center and museum of Spanish architecture built for the 1929 Exhibition. We also visit the Catalan Art Museum known for its Romanesque art and medieval frescos. We have the rest of the day and evening at our leisure. B

DAY 6, Friday: Our day is free for further exploration. Some ideas for places to visit include Fundació Joan Miró, the Picasso museum, Casa Batlló, or the Ramblas. In the early evening, we meet for our last night in Barcelona. We enjoy the Font Màgica light show; a huge magic fountain that bubbles and bursts, spews and spouts cascades of water in a sensational show set to music and lit by every color of the rainbow. After, we celebrate our “Farewell to Barcelona” dinner at a local restaurant. BD DAY 7, Saturday, November 14, 2020: After breakfast, we say adéu (Catalan for goodbye) to Barcelona and board our flight back to JFK. BM
