Welcome to the Eighth Annual Production Sale “Take the next step”

Welcome from C&TYes the Rider flag is still proudly flying from the pickup. We’ve learned never to give up or jump off the bandwagon as you never know what lies ahead. Every day brings a new challenge!

Here at C&T, as most everywhere in the southeast part of the province, 2011 dealt with it all; record snow fall, spring flooding, the worst late Spring snow storm that SE Saskatchewan has seen in decades, and then the sudden drought of July and Au-gust with 30 plus temperatures and plenty of wind. Now we are seeing a terrific harvest for those who were able to get a crop in. Change is endless.

2011 also saw our 7 year old grandson, Dawson, attend his first Bonanza this July in Saskatoon. That was certainly exciting for all of us and so starts the next generation in the business of showing!

The Nicholas’, Chad, Carrie and girls, along with Gary and Florence also attended Bonanza and the girls were very successful. Congratulations to them! They are bringing 6 powerful breds and 4 heifer calves. Be sure to study the pedigrees and services of these females as they are exciting.Doug and Wanda of Phantom Creek Livestock are consigning 10 big breds and 4 heifer calves. These females, like their mothers, will make terrific brood cows.

They also carry the services of some very interesting sires. The potential here is unlimited and the PCL prefix is fast becoming very well known in the country.C&T have 9 breds and 5 heifer calves. I think these females are as strong a group as we have offered. Most of the yearlings are bred to our Percy son out of Scarlet, as he proved this spring to be an outstanding easy calver. A few have been AI’ed to select service sires. The flooding through the creek and corrals made AI’ing and hand breeding a challenge this Spring!A note to the Juniors that these heifer calves are all capable of wearing a show halter and we as contributors would be pleased to work with you if you are interested, in developing and preparing them for Bonanza or the World Hereford Conference next Summer. All calves purchased by a Junior member receive a 10% discount. Be sure to discuss any of the animals offered with the consignors or any of the sales staff. And finally, you heard it here first – The Riders and Montreal will end up in the 2011 Grey Cup again. Yes, that’s not a misprint! But this time- Riders will win. You can bank on it!

“Take the Next Step” has a different slant than many other female sales conducted each fall. The three breeders, that come together to host this event, have liaisons to both the commercial industry and the breed’s associations. Chris Lees is President of the Saskatchewan Hereford Association and runs a purebred operation, a commercial cow herd and grass steers each summer. Doug Mann is a member of the board on the Canadian Hereford Association, runs a purebred operation, a commercial cow herd and is a veterinarian with a large commercial clientele in the ranch lands of South West Saskatchewan. Chad Nicholas is a member of the board on the Canadian Hereford Association, chairman of breed improvement and development, and runs a purebred operation encompassing two breeds. These breeders are exposed to both sides of the street – the commercial and the purebred facet, in addition to the voluntary responsibilities that it takes to have an association conduct affairs. This exposure gives these three breeding operations the scope of seeing what we, as breeders, require to satisfy both the commercial and the breeding sector. The sale offering is filled with limitless herd building opportunities suitable for breeders big or small. The powerful lineup of bred heifers carry services to leading power bulls, designed for the next decade. Each and every bred heifer selling has been sourced from replacement pastures. The 2011 models are exciting, with several competitive individuals that will be seen again later this fall and in next summer’s show season. The livestock industry and the Hereford breed has not felt this positive for some time…the future looks even brighter; so now is the time to position your program for years to come. With the record of the “Green Machine” at two and seven, it is difficult to make many predictions, but if it improves, I’m certain that Chris will name his next bull calf “Miller.” As you know, Chris and Tina are “bleed green” enthusiasts and get very nervous for sixty minutes every weekend in the fall, but the most nervous I have ever seen them, was the ten minutes of watching their grandson compete in his first Bonanza.Take the Next Step follows the ANL sale just thirty minutes down the road, with plenty of food, refreshments and hospitality; so plan to be with us and if we at T Bar C, may be of any assistance, prior to or sale day, do not hesitate to give Chris or myself a call.See you in Kisbey.

It shouldn’t take long for her to be in the front pasture. Her mother came to us from Ross Madsen; one day Ross phoned up and said “I’ve got 5 yearling heifers loaded and I’m bringing them to you and this is the deal!” These are all big, deep, solid brood cows, trouble free and easy keeping, You can’t beat Snap’s temperament either as she was our 7 year old grandson, Dawson’s, Bonanza heifer this summer. Snap is bred to Nitrogen. The Nitrogen calves born here at C&T this spring are some of our best 2011 calf crop. Her new owner will like this match up. Bred AI to Ernst Nitrogen 916 on May 26, 2011.Show rights reserved. Reserving the right to a flush.
