    Mondelez:Joy Schools Program

  • About the Company Established in 1963, Mondelez Philippines, Inc.s (MPI)

manufacturing operations began two years later in 1965 in Sucat, Paraaque City. Formerly called Kraft Foods, Mondelez Philippines changed its name in 2013 due to a global split of the entire Kraft Foods company. This resulted in two companies, a North American grocery business which retained the name and a global snacks powerhouse called Mondelz International, of which the Philippines is part of.

  • Joy Schools Program A three-year commitment launched in 2011 to create delicious moments of

joy for the community through programs for nutrition and education.

The program aims to create joyful centers of learning, empowering families

to live healthy lifestyles and improve educational standing, to transform the

schools into one of the Top 10 in their Cities.

  • Starting with one public elementary school, the Companys neighbor

Sampaloc Site II Elementary School in Paraaque, Mondelez Philippines

sought to help address the most pressing problems faced by schools.

These were nutrition, teacher training and facilities improvement. Together

with the support of various partners and more importantly, that of the

Companys own employees, the program was shaped. For two years, it

provided the school a daily, 9-month feeding program using fortified squash

and malunggay bread to the most undernourished students.

    The Beginnings..

  • The Beginnings.. Teachers were also equipped to become more able partners in creating joy for

the school. All the schools teachers were given subject matter training, focusing

on the least performing subjects based on the National Achievement Test (NAT)

as well as values formation training. The latter helped strengthen their

commitment to the profession of teaching.

Lastly, employees of Mondelez Philippines helped create a more joyful learning

environment through facilities improvement. The feeding area, instructional

materials room, comfort rooms, library, kinder rooms, and the urban garden

were refurbished. Students were also provided school supplies and sports

equipment to make their learning days better.

  • The Evolution.. In 2013, the Company adopted 4 more schools in Metro Manila for a total of 5 under

the Joy Schools program. They are:

    1. Bayanan Main Elementary School (Muntinlupa)

    2. Padre Zamora Elementary School (Pasay)

    3. P. Manalo Elementary School (Pateros)

    4. Vicente Lim Elementary School (Manila)

    5. Sampaloc Site II Elementary School (Paraaque)

In 2014, the Company adopted another school, Panalaron Elementary School in typhoon

hit-Tacloban making it its 6th Joy School.

  • Nutrition.. A 9-month daily feeding program for 1,150 severely undernourished

elementary students, consisting of one hot meal (rice, viands and fruits) per

day cooked by the parents. The latter are given nutrition education to facilitate

    their role in the program.

Urban vegetable gardens for parents equip them to grow fresh food and

    encourage good nutrition at home.

Aims to prevent hunger from interfering with the students desire to learn
