    SUBJECT: Inspection of MC-40 Fuel Control and Governor Speed RotorWeightsInvestigation of fuel controls and governors have revealedspeed rotor assemblies with rotor weights that were notproperly processed. As a result, operational problemsmay occur during start, e.g. stagnation, Nl acce lerationto 80% rpm, or unstable N2 rpm.CECO authorized personnel will accom plish this inspectionas soon as possible on the units listed in Table 1. Eachinspected unit will also be identified with the letter Rstamped on the unpainted area adjacent to Colt Industries.

    EFFECTIVITY : Inspect those units listed in Table 1.COMPLIANCE: To be accomplished by CECO authorized personnel as

    REFERENCE: CECO Product Support Information Letter MC40-6-73PROCEDURE: 1. Inspect Speed Rotor Weights. (See F&m e 1. )

    a. Remove Fue l Controls and Governors from aircraft,shipping containers, etc. Using wrench STD 67229,remove the speed rotor assembly.

    b. Inspect the installed weight for c:olor. Acceptable weightwill be completely straw-colored.c. If unacceptable, proceed as follows:

    (1) Carefully remove and discard retaining ring (Item 7Figure 1~ and remove speed weight (Item 6).(2) Using tweezers, carefu lly remove spring ,

    (Item 8). Exe rcise caution to insure thatshims (Item 9) are not lost.(3) Measure the speed weight b leing removed andthe replacement speed weiglht for X dimension.(See Figure 2).(4) Select replacement speed weight having anx7 dim ension not to exceed plus Or minus0.001 of removed speed weight.

Lubricate packings witha light coat of petrolatum, FederalSpecification VV-P-236.Install speed rotor assembly using wrenchSTD67229, and tighten with 20-30 inchpounds torque.Stamp the unit nam eplate with the R stampin the unpainted area adjacent to ColtIndustries. Record compliance withCSL-1024 in the Engine Assembly (whitepages) Inspection Record, Part III of theEngine Log Book.
