density, hardness & electrical and thermal conductivity.
o Know that matter can undergo physical and chemical changes, and consists of atoms and
molecules in various arrangements (protons, neutrons, & electrons).
o Describe the constituents of molecules and compounds, naming common elements (e.g.
hydrogen, oxygen, & iron), and understand how elements are organized on the Periodic
Table.
o Describe characteristics of solutions (such as acidic, basic, or neutral) and know examples
of different pH levels.
o Understand that mixtures may often be separated based on physical or chemical
properties.

o Describe an object’s motion based on position, displacement, speed, velocity, and
acceleration.

Content Area Six: Astronomy: Solar System and the Universe
o Identify and describe the planets, their motion, and other planetary bodies, such as
asteroids and comets, around the sun. o Explain the time zones in terms of longitude and rotation of the earth, and understand
the reasons for changes in the observed position of the sun and moon. o Name and describe bodies in the universe such as the sun, stars & galaxies.

o Describe the formation and observable physical characteristics of minerals (e.g. quartz,
calcite, hornblende, mica, common ore minerals) and different types of rocks (e.g.
