    Features

Silo guard consists of a continuous guided

level radar Levelflex M, Cerabar T pressure

    sensor, remote displays with integrated

    alarm relays

Optional remote data access and control

with Fieldgate inside, sends you an SMS

message or e-mail in an overfill emer-

    gency

Visual and audible high level & pressure

    overfill alarms in pneumatically filled

    powder bins

    Benefits

Eliminate the prospect of silo damage

Meet requirements of local health and

    safety for over filling

    Prevent environmental emission issues

    Assist you in preventative maintenance

Bulk storage of cement in silos is the prefer-

red method of storing cement for concreteproduction.

    The following recommendations can ensure

the safe, clean and trouble-free operation of

    cement silos.

Endress+Hauser can fit each silo with

a Fieldgate based silo guard monitoring

system which will allow e.g. the concrete

plant operator or cement supply compa-

ny to remotely monitor the bin levels to

optimize the supply logistics by setting refill

    level alarms.

    Silo Guard with Fieldgate inside

Each Fieldgate module can link to up to 30

control instruments via standard processindustry communication protocols such as

4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS to Ethernet

and transmit measurement data over a wide

    area network through standard telecom

lines or via GSM. Data can be accessed

through the Internet using standard web

browsers and exported and saved in stan-

    dard formats.

Cement silos should be erected securely

    and inspected regularly. Concrete hardening

though is inevitable and can seriously affect

the accuracy of silo weighing systems if

not cleaned regularly. The only accurateand trouble free way of determining the

silo cement content is using a continuous

level sensor such as a guided or free space

radar device Levelflex M FMP40 or a free

    space radar measurement Micropilot M

    FMR250. Endress+Hauser radar accuracy

is not affected by plant vibration, moisture,

high process temperatures or excessive dust

    clouds during filling.

Remote viewing and multi silo monitoring

    Radar measurements do not require

repeated calibrations after an initial setup to

    guarantee measurement integrity.

Silos and supply lines should be clearly

marked to display the type of cement

    which they contain. Endress+Hauser has

a range of bright easy read silo level or

pressure displays which can be wall orpanel mounted on the silo or near the tank

loading nozzle in the truck loading area.

An Ecograph panel mounted recorder will

clearly indicate the actual silo content and

corresponding bin level and pressure, as

well as record the mix ratios of the material

feed. Advance planning will facilitate deli-

    very at specified times.

The level of cement in the silo should

always be checked before filling begins.

Ensure that the time between filling of the

silo and shutting off the cement supply is

kept to a minimum to avoid overfilling. Asthe bulk density of fresh cement varies, it is

therefore advisable to be conservative when

estimating the weight of cement required

    to fill a silo.

A pressure relief valve and sensor is neces-

sary should excessive air pressures build up

    in the silo.

Filters are necessary to remove cement dust

from the excess air leaving the silo during

the filling operation. The air filter is often

located on top of the silo with extracted

dust allowed to drop into the silo below.

Most modern filters are self-cleaning pres-

sure filters. While a minimum of attention

is required with these filters, it is recom-

mended that a regulary check of the filter

efficiency be made using the pressure sen-

    sor electronic control unit. Endress+Hauser

offer a complete range of pressure gauges

including the cost effective Cerabar gaugeand Deltabar S differential pressure sensor

which can be flange mounted to the silo

and monitor for blocked or burst filters.

The sensor comes with an abrasion proof

ceramic or stainless steel cell and the

display and programmer can be mounted

    separately.

Overfilling can cause severe dust emissions

from the silo and the structural soundness

of the silo may also be put at serious risk

posing a threat to personal safety. The inclu-

sion of a high level alarm is recommended

to avoid the consequences of overfilling.

Endress+Hauser has a range of cost effecti-

ve high level switches for bulk solids which

include the Soliphant T/M vibrating forks,

Solicap M capacitance probe or Soliswitch

rotating paddle switch. All switches can be

easily mounted as a rod from the tank side

or suspended from the silo roof on a rope

    or cable.

Local guidance information for the cement, concrete and quarrying industry generally

    states a requirement for:

    Prevention against over-filling of silos

    with a high level device

Silo operating conditions must not exceed

    manufacturers specifications

    The Endress+Hauser Fieldgate system not

only optimizes cement logistics and the

reorder process but can be used as a per-

manent silo guard which will automatically

distribute data triggered by silo overfills,

over pressurization or burst filters. The

alarms can be sent directly to your mainte-nance engineers mobile or cell phone via

SMS or to a service center via the telephone

network as a fax or e-mail message.

With an Endress+Hauser Silo Guard System

accidents will be prevented and your plant

control will be in safe hands.
