An extended bonnet with an upper set of stem packings.

Body seals, upstream seat, and stem packings are live loaded with spring washers - asmetal shrinks, it keeps pressure on seals as temperature goes through cooling and heatingcycles.

Cryogenic Applications A cryogenic liquid is defined as a liquid with a normal boiling point below -240°F (-150°C, 123°K). The most commonly used industrial gases that are transported, handled, and stored in the liquid state at cryogenic temperatures are argon, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen. Typically, applications that require cryogenic valves are liquefied gases that are used in various processes. These gases would include the above. Operation temperatures range from minus 109 F (for CO2) to minus 452 F (for Helium). In addition, there may be processes and reactions in industries we serve that are carried out at lower temperatures. See http://www.trgn.com/database/cryogen.html for properties of the major cryogens. The major producers and suppliers of these gases are Air Liquide, Praxair, Air Products, and BOC to name a few. Cryogenic Air Separation Cryogenic gas producers operate hundreds of cryogenic air separation plants around the world - from smaller on-site customer facilities - to the largest plant of its kind in India. Cryogenic air separation technology is used by many industries that rely on an uninterrupted supply of atmospheric gases. Cryogenic air separation plants produce tons of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon efficiently and safely every day. How It Works The process begins with the intake of huge volumes of air from the atmosphere. The air is compressed and purified before entering the cryogenic equipment package. The air is cooled to about -300°F (-185°C) and then, relying on different boiling points, separated into its elemental components in the form of liquid oxygen, argon and nitrogen. Sterilant Gases Praxair supplies ethylene oxide-based sterilant gases. These gases are used in the sterilization of a variety of medical devices, surgical equipment, and similar materials used in the healthcare industry. Our Specialty Gases operations utilizes special cylinder cleaning and inspection procedures to ensure the purity of these products, minimizing polymer problems. Liquid Helium Helium is used as a component of breathing mixtures to reduce the density of the mixture to facilitate breathing under certain physical and physiological conditions. In Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, helium cools electromagnetic coils to superconductive levels. This decreases the metal's ordinary resistance to the electrical current and results in high-resolution images. Nitrogen Nitrogen is used as a component in many gas mixtures and as a displacement medium for sterile equipment. It is also used as a non- oxidizing displacement medium in pharmaceutical vials and as a propellant in pressurized aerosol type dispensers. Nitrogen provides a source of pneumatic pressure to power gas-operated medical devices and as a coolant for carbon dioxide surgical lasers. Nitrogen is also used to freeze and preserve blood, tissue, semen and other biological specimens and to freeze and destroy diseased tissue in cryosurgery and dermatology. It may also be used to pre-cool or insulate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines which conserves helium. Carbon Dioxide Carbon dioxide is used for close-to-physiologic atmospheres for the operation of artificial organs and in cryosurgery with insufflators during laparoscopic surgery. Carbon dioxide is also used as a component in a mixture of oxygen or air as a respiratory stimulant to promote deep breathing. Nitrous Oxide Nitrous oxide is used as an analgesic, often in combination with other agents for the production of anesthesia. Nitrous oxide is also used in cryosurgery. PBM cryogenic valve written specification: CP (Industrial) or CI (Sanitary) PBM C-Series 5 two-way full port Class 150# cryogenic ball valve; body, ball stem and end fitting material shall be 316 / 316L stainless steel (or other materials as specified). Seats and seals shall be TFM™ material, upstream seat, body seals, and stem packing shall be live-loaded. Valve shall be uni-directional with body markings for flow direction and upstream vent hole in ball. For manual valves, handle shall be 300 series stainless steel.
