The company produce limestone fillers under the trade-name Calmote. Air Products acquire PURA International Universal Plastic Color acquire Cannon Colouran ts Carbon fibre plant expansion Masterbatch expansion Air Products GmbH, a German subsidiary of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc, has acquired PURA International Hapke GmbH & Co, a leading supplier of polyurethane release agents, based in Norderstedt near Hamburg, Germany. PURA’s business is worldwide in release agents, used in the manufacture of polyurethane shoe soles, furniture and automotive parts. These speciality products are applied to the inside of the mould to ease the release of the parts after the resin has cured. PURA’s sales are increasingly in new technologies such as water-based release agents, as an alternative to environmentally harmful products containing solvents or chlorofluorocarbons. The new water-based products will complement an already successful line of similar products commercialised by Air Products in the US for flexible polyurethane foam. Universal Plastic Color Corp of New Jersey has acquired Gannon Colourants Inc. Universal Plastic Color manufactures dry colourants. Akzo plans to more than triple its Tenax carbon fibre production in Oberruck, Germany, by 1993. A new plant with a capacity of 1600 tonnes a year will come on stream in due course. Ampacet Europe is to double its masterbatch production capacity, to some 35,000 tpa, and expand its development facilities at Messancy, Belgium. The new line is due on-stream by mid 1991, and will extend the company’s ability to produce masterbatches for styrene-based polymers and some engineering resins. The company says it will have a worldwide masterbatch manufacturing capacity of 145,000 tpa in 1991, and 160,000 tpa in 1992. 14 01991 Elsevier Science Publishers Ltd.
