~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lots of People…Lots of Names!
Once upon a time there were four men (brothers) who were all runners. There was Lear man, Zimmer
man, Dalh mann, and Bright man. And Bright man had 2 sons – Thei and Sander (think about it).
Their goal – their dream – was to break the Dailey Bonds of normal life and run across the country!
“What a Diehl that would be!” they shouted whenever they thought about their trip.
Every Day they planned and plotted and packed all the equipment they would need.
“Boxeth up those running shoes!” said Zimmer man. “Stow those water bottles after you Fillmore of
them! And let’s bring Fordice so we can play Monopoly if we get bored!”
“That’s my Brow,” said Dahl man. “He’s always thinking. He’s a very Sharp guy!”
Finally they set off on their adventure. They ran mile after mile – day after day. They ran through Bush-
filled fields, over Green mountain passes, down gentle Nolls, across dry Brown deserts, and through
beautiful city Parks. Sometimes there were no Marx to follow, and they felt lost. But then a friendly
Denny’s or Myer’s sign would appear in the distance, and all their Grim thoughts would disappear.
At night they would stop to eat and rest. Sometimes they would pick old berries to eat, and sometimes
Newberrys. Sometimes they would put their Nichols together and buy a trout from a Fisher man or a
deer from a Hunter. Then they would Cook their food over an open fire.
Often the runners would sleep under the stars, but sometimes when it rained they would ask a farmer if
they could sleep in his loft.
“A Loft us…?” the farmer would reply. “I’m afraid not. Would a Hall in our humble house work just as
well? You’re welcome to spend the night if you’re willin to do some Weeden in the garden in the
morning.” No matter where they ended up sleeping, they were often so tired from their running that
they felt like they needed a Crayne to get themselves out bed in the morning.
After weeks and weeks and miles and miles, the runners finally reached their goal. They had made their
way across the entire country. They were tired but grateful. It seemed to them like they had run to
Nazareth and back or maybe so far as to see the Shah of some exotic country!
As they reached the end of their long journey, the four men and the two sons shouted in unison, “We did
it! We Garnered our strength. We fought off Grim moments. And most importantly, we left Marx on
each other’s lives. Happy Trails!”
A rainbow suddenly appearing during Jamboree III.
The midnight evacuation at camp!
Chants of “17 – 17 – 17” as the varsity pounded on all the other teams at Jamboree III.
From the Senior Speeches: “Cross country leaves a footprint on your heart.”
Mama J says…….”Oxygen + Adrenaline + Endorphines = PR.”
Strange blue and red slushy smiles after the 3 mile time trial.
Braving the heat at South Lyon … and then jumping in the lake after the race!
Walking into first hour on Senior Day and seeing a pile of gifts on a senior’s desk.
Stepping of the bus at Hudson Mills – Senior Day – Jamboree III – the color of the leaves –
the excitement. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Staying up way too late to make goodies for Little Sisters.
Counting the Saline jerseys crossing the finish line at the Regional: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. Top 7!
Double digit mileage on Max Out Day.
“Man” voices, “Southern” voices, counting in Spanish when we were stretching.
135 exactly-the-same hair ribbons walking to the starting line.
Popsicle Runs during hot practice days in September.
Basically taking over Mongolian BBQ for our team lunch.
Coach Meagan and Coach Mandy both running marathons!
Overheard at a meet: “Get out of the way! Here comes Saline!”
Running in them. Sleeping in them. Wearing them to school. SXC clothes!
From Senior Speeches: “You accepted me for what I am rather than criticize me for what I
am not.”
Images……
Happy Trails! Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.
Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.
Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
