What is my

POLITICAL RAP

• When did „Political Rap‟ ever exist?

• Whats the difference between „Rap‟ and „Political Rap‟

• What is Political Rap?

• Who produces Political Music?

• Why would any artist/band create Political Music?

• These are some of the questions I asked myself when I was

researching what genre I should focus my music video around, I

was not fully educated with what Political Rap/Hip Hop was.

What is Political Rap?

POLITICAL RAP/HIP-HOP • Political Rap/Hip-Hop is a sub-genre of hip hop music that developed in the

1980s

• It was founded in the 1970s inspired by artists such as: The Last Poets and

Gil Scott-Heron, Public Enemy were the first political hip hop group.

• This genre should never be compared to the average rap song played on the

radio, almost all Political hip hop artist express extreme dislike towards mass

produced and highly commercialized artists.

• For example of this is a passage from the song “The Message and the

Money” by Immortal Technique, “To all these saronayas who are too lazy to

come up with a way to sell records…that they keep recycling marketing

schemes and imagery.

• Those specific lyrics express that they are against the way they create music

and how artists today will try anything in order to gain success.

LOCATIONS…• My locational ideas focus around exterior, so being outside preferably during the

evening/night. But some shots will be recorded outside during the day time.

• If it is possible I will record some shots in London near iconic places such as: London

Bridge, London Eye if it was possible I would record outside 10 Downing street.

• Alternatively I can record during the evening near Bedford Embankment, it is a well lit

area and it is ideal for the impression I am trying to create.

• I would like to record outside 10 Downing Street because it will interlink with the lyrics of

the song, as it relates to the lyrics the audience will be able to UNDERSTAND the lyrics.

ACTORS - PROPS – IMAGERY • In general for my music video I only plan to use one which is the artist himself. I must use

him because the music is intense and fast paced therefore only he can master the lyrics

and the tempo of the song.

• The video itself will be very minimal, I am going to try and keep it simple and sweet and

ensure that I implement the correct codes and conventions in order to educate the

audience of Political Rap.

• Since I began to brainstorm Ideas I was always certain I was going to have fast cuts in the

music video, but when I cut away from the performing I artists I will include secondary

material such as: TV news headlines, newspaper front pages, Political leaders

announcing speeches, short snippets of action taken place is current war commencing

countries.

• The props and imagery I use will be directly related to the lyrics of the music.
