We began the day at Hayes Park Public School networking with teachers from 6 other schools as part of the Wollongong Literacy Leadership initiative. Parent Teacher Interviews Thank you to the parents who took the time to attend our Parent Teacher Interviews. It was great to have so many parents meet with the teachers to discuss student progress, strengths and areas of improvement. Thank you also to our fantastic teachers for giving up their time outside of school hours to meet with our parents.

Weekly attendance averageWe are aiming for our students to average a weekly attendance rate of 93%. In Week 11 we averaged 92%. This was very close. Please ensure your child is at school everyday to maximise their learning opportunities.

Lost PropertyIn the foyer we have a lost property box overflowing with jumpers, hats, lunch boxes etc. Please check this box for your child’s belongings. By the end of the week, if these items are still in the lost property box they will be washed and placed in the second hand clothing pool.

Morning School Routine At Cringila Public School, students are supervised from 8:30am in the mornings. Currently, this gives them 30 minutes of play time prior to starting school. We are finding that for some children this is too long to play for a variety of reasons. This term, we will be trialling something different in the playground in the mornings. The teacher will collect students from the school entrance as normal. Students will then sit in the COLA outside the canteen for 15 minutes supervised by the teacher on duty. The students will be expected to sit and talk quietly during this time. The teacher will then walk the students to the playground for a 15 minute play prior to starting school at 9:00am.

Coles Sports for SchoolsThank you to parents who have collected Coles vouchers for our school. We have now finished collecting them and have sent our vouchers off to be counted. If you have any vouchers still remaining, please send to school by Friday. We will keep you informed of what sporting equipment we will be able to purchase.

Canteen RefurbishmentOver the holidays the refurbishment of the canteen began. This is a very exciting project for our school. Just a reminder the canteen is now closed until further notice. We appreciate your support with this matter. A section of the COLA where the students eat and part of the walk way behind the hall has been fenced off. We ask students and carers to walk through the foyer to the COLA whilst this area is fenced off. The hall will be still used for some activities, however our assembly format has changed with our assemblies only being held in Week 4 and 8 from 2:15pm.

Mother’s Day Staff and BreakfastTo wish all our mums, grandmothers and aunties a happy Mother’s day, we will be holding a Mother’s Day stall on Thursday 10th May 2018. Students will be able to purchase gifts for $4.00. The teachers would like to acknowledge our wonderful mums, grandmothers and aunties by inviting them to to join the children for breakfast on Thursday from 8:30 – 9:00am in the Red Gum Kitchen. Thank you to our parents who have offered to assist with the Mother’s Day stall. If you would like to help please let the office know. We ask all parents who are helping meet Mrs Pratt at the office at 9:00am on the day of the stall to help organise and sell the gifts.

NAPLANStudents in Years 3 and 5 will be completing the NAPLAN assessments in Week 3. A note with information regarding NAPLAN has been previously sent home.
