Degree Requirements:

• Overall requirements to complete your degree include

completing a minimum of 120 units.

• At least 42 of those units must be in upper-division (300-400

level) coursework.

• To graduate you must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in your

major, minor, and overall.

• You are required to have a minor for this degree, unless you

are completing a double major.

• This is a Bachelor of Science degree and therefore, a 2nd

semester proficiency in a foreign language is required.

• The math requirement for this degree is College Algebra or

higher.

Internship

• PA 393 (Internship)

• You will be required to complete a 3 unit (135 hours)

internship with a non-profit organization or a government

agency. It must be criminal justice related.

• Students usually complete their internship their senior year.

(Freshmen are not eligible for internships)

School of Government & Public Policy Fee

• Students who have earned 60 or more units (Junior Standing) will be charged a $400.00 per semester fee

• This fee has been used to hire adjuncts and ultimately make more seats available to Political Science, Public Management , and Criminal Justice majors

• The fee has also been used to create scholarships and provide other funding opportunities for study abroad, attend workshops etc for our students. These are but a few examples of the many opportunities created for our students as a result of the fee.

• There is a student governance board in place to provide oversight for the spending of the fees.

Major Fact Sheet Please read and check the following statements to indicate you understand and agree to the following:

120 units are required to complete this degree.

42 out of the 120 total units must be upper division (courses numbered 300-499).

A minor is required for this major unless you are completing a double major.

To graduate you must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or greater in the major, minor and cumulative GPA.

If you fall below a 2.0 cumulative GPA, you will be on academic probation. Failure to raise your GPA could lead to

disqualification.

Minimum math requirement is College Algebra or higher. Math substitutions are NOT allowed for this major.

The pre-requisite for SBS/POL/PA 200 is the completion of college algebra or an ALEKS prep for college algebra

placement of 88% or higher.

The major core courses: PA 330, PA 410, PA 470 can be taken during your junior or senior year. To enroll in a Fall or

Spring semester there is a request form that can be found on our website prior to priority registration. Priority is given to

graduating seniors. These courses are available to anyone during summer session.

A $400.00 fee will be charged to your Bursar’s account once you have reached 60 earned units. This fee will be charged

every Spring and Fall semester until completion of your degree.
