I was glad to see that this company is progressing in Rock- castle County. t I work in Cincinnati; Ohio, or should I say the company I wofk for is located in Cincinna- ti. My "Torfc.uniforms are rented from and supplied by Cintas. I just got new uniform pants, dark blue, and. in all probabili- ty, they were made by Rocko^s- tle Manufacturing Company, a fact of which I am very proud. I am proud to be from Rockcastle County. I was born at Climax and raised at Climax and Orlando and I'm glad of it; I would like to say to the people of Rockcastle County they ought to be glad and proud that this company has chosen to located in tW* community. Maybe other, companies will do the same. Rockcastle County has the potential to grow and they have a lot of natural resources to put to use. My suggestion is that they put them to use and not let them go to waste. I would like to live back down there and work in Rock- castle County but at present my obligation to my employer and family doesn't permit^t. Officials from the state Departments of Finance, Revenue, "Transportation and the Secretary of State's office appeared before the committee to address this subject. A few months ago, several legislators came up with the idea that surplus state-owned land could be sold by auction, funds generated from the sales would then be placed in the state's depleted treasury. There was just one problem, the state didn't know how much land it owned or where it was all located. This revelation led to state government being charged with the task 5f talking an invetory of all state-owned land. In order to narrow the project's scope, the Department of Revenue is working with county property valuation ad- ministrators to compile a com- plete list of all tax exempt property in Kentucky, state- owned land is tax exempt, by accumulating land parcel maps for each county. At this time, land parcel maps have been compiled for 90 of the* 120 ~ counties. The Department of Fins/"— has required individual state agencies to submit a list of all land under their control. This information will be placed In a computer under supervision by the Secretary of State's office. Also, the Department of Finance is planning to "perform a title search of land deeds in every county. This Is a large CORRECTION! The RIght-of-Way purchas- ing division is conducting the Department of Transportation's Invfentory. Transportation offi- cials estimate their inventory will be completed by year's end. The committee has request- ed the Department of Transpor- tation to appear at their Sep- tember meeting, in order to present a list of surplus right-of- way property and a time table for auctioning off this property. Presently, all land pur- chased by the Departments of Finance and Transportation js supposed to be recorded by the Secretary of State and merged into the state-owned land in- ventory. However, there have been reports made by county clerks that this is not being done. In the past, a substantial amount of politics has been involved with state land pur- chases, especially those relating to highways. The possibility e&ists that politics may dictate, how quickly the state-owned land Inventory is completed. This type of inventory is long over-due and speculation has it that the inventory will be a long time in reaching comple- tion. Of course, if state govern- ment is now truly free of poll- tin, the inventory should be completed in a few month. At any rate, the committee will continue to monitor the inven- tory's progress.
