Dynamically Scaled Model Project• Dynamically Scaled Models

– Accurately Scaled Dimensions– Accurately Scaled Mass Properties– Accurately Scaled Available Power

• Results in Accurately Scaled Flight Dynamics– The motions of the model can be used to predict the motions of the full-scale

airplane.– This can allow determination of the full-scale flight characteristics prior to

building and flying a full-scale prototype.

• Reduces Risk– Increased Safety: Major design problems can be identified and fixed without

risking a pilot/crew using a vehicle that is much less likely to cause severe damage to people or structures on the ground in the event of a crash.

– Reduced Cost: Identifying and fixing problems earlier in the design process reduces the cost of the fixes, and increases their effectiveness.

How Can You Help?• Quest Aircraft Company Senior Design Proposal

– Design a flight management and data acquisition system to fit in a 1/5 scale KODIAK® 100 airplane model

– Build and Install the system in a test bed aircraft model– Assist in the flight testing of the system– This system will then be used to help design and build the next Quest

Aircraft Company Airplane

• Multidisciplinary Project– Mechanical Engineers– Electrical Engineers– Computer Scientists
