    April 4, 2011

The corridor was dark. Light flooded only the very end of the hall. The only sound was

the light clacking of footsteps on the linoleum tiles. The footsteps stopped, and the figure began

to shuffle papers, but only for a moment. A cabinet opened and bottles where shifted. Then the

small white door was slowly closed. The footsteps began again, more rapidly this time. As they

turn into a patients room they stop. The thin tube running from the patients arm to a bag with

clear liquid in it was lifted. The almost silent swish indicated that a new fluid had been

introduced to the situation. The person pocketed the now empty syringe and left the hospital

    through the back.

Lauren, one of the new residents, wandered into Auberry Memorial Hospital just after

eight am. She packed all of her possessions into her small, blue locker, and put on her scrubs.

With her stethoscope wrapped around her neck, she went to check on her patients. She was

looking forward to checking on one in particular, Elizabeth Parker. She was an older woman, in

her mid-sixties. Elizabeth was sweet and always smiling, even though she had just undergone

surgery to remove her gallbladder. For the last several weeks Elizabeth had been suffering from

severe abdominal pains. She was diagnosed with acute cholecystitis, or inflammation of the

gallbladder. Her surgery went well and she was put on a new pain reliever medicine called

Paxmox, which Lauren had asked Mrs. Parker to take.

After checking on Mrs. Dylanson, who had been diagnosed with diverticulitis, and then

Mr. Schwartz, who had recently been diagnosed with a rare disease known as achalasia; she

finally got to check on Elizabeth Parker. Lauren flipped open Mrs. Parkers clipboard as she

entered her room. Good morning Mrs. Parker. How are you feeling today? Lauren asked.

No reply. Lauren looked around and found an empty room. New sheets had been put on

the bed. Mrs. Parkers glasses and the book she had been reading where gone. Lauren placed her

clipboard on the bed and stood in shock. She slowly lowered herself into a chair, but the stood up

abruptly and took off to find one of the nurses. Maybe Elizabeth had just been moved to a new

room; she thought as she went to find out what had happened to her once cheery, living patient.

Her heart started to beat rapidly then sank as she wondered if she had done something wrong. I

did everything by the books. The only thing I changed was I used Paxmox instead of Aspirin.

    She whispered to herself.

What about Aspirin? asked Clara. Clara was a short thin woman in her early forties.

She had been working for the hospital for almost twenty-three years. Clara was hoping to land

the head-nurses job soon. She had frizzy light brown hair that just brushed the top of her collar

bone. Her eyes where a warm caramel color that matched her sweet reassuring voice. Perhaps

that is why she was such a wonderful nurse, she just seemed to be so relaxed and yet involved

    with every patients recovery.

Nothing. Lauren said shaking her head, Do you know where Mrs. Parker from room

115 is? Was she moved? Please tell me they simply moved her to a different room.

Hey, Lauren! Troy yelled down the hall as he caught up with her. Any idea why Dr.

Dresse is actually in a good mood? he asked. Dr. Dresse was the Chiefof Medicine at Aubrey

Memorial Hospital and for the last ten years he had been the grouchy old man who wandered the

halls tormenting everyone. Troy and Lauren had been screamed at so many times in the last two

years they could hardly remember the first lecture they had received. Troy and Lauren had

started as med. students together and had both become the new residents in the hospital, about a

year ago. They loved the idea of being residents. It made them more powerful, smarter, and more

independent. Unfortunately it also came with a lot of responsibility, which they were completely

    unprepared for.

No idea what so ever. He smiled at me this morning; it sent chills down my spine. I

cant remember ever smiling at me or anyone for that matter. She said with a smile.

I know its weird. Maybe its something that happens every thirteen years when the

planets all line up. He replied as the two walked into Mr. Gammelis room.

Yeah, Ill check online and see if Jupiter and Saturn are lined up.

Dont bother Im sure my iphone has an app for that. We cancheck at lunch. He

    joked.

Kyle was the only med. Student in Mr. Gammelis room. Kyle was by far one of the

smartest med. Students, but he liked to take short cuts. He needed to be patient and not jump to

conclusions every time a new symptom appeared. Hello Dr. Witting. he said to Lauren. She

loved that, being called Dr. Witting. It made her feel superior.

So have you been able to diagnose Mr. Gammeli? she asked as she looked over Mr.

Gammelis charts. He smiled at her. It was his I-did-good-smile. The sparkle of anticipation in

his hazel eyes, his proud stance, shoulders back, chin jutting out, an his chest puffed up.

Well, we believe he has coronary artery disease. Jamie is looking over his chest x-rays.

And as we speak Eric and Drew are in the lab checking his test results.

Good. Ill get him signed up for coronary artery bypass surgery. She said even though

she had put Mr. Gammeli on the list an hour ago. She was proud. She and Troy had taught them

so much in the last three months.

Troy was less impressed. He leaned against the wall and listened to Kyle chatter on about

the tests they ran and what symptoms the patient had. He crossed his arms and let his mind

wander. A moment like this were rare, the ability to not be responsible for anything or anyone.

No tests he had to run. No patient he had to check on. He had nothing to worry about, but his

    own thoughts.

Lauren glanced over her shoulder and shot Troy a smile. Their work had gotten even

more stressful in the past few weeks. There were so many new patients you would have thought

the hospital was having a sale. She knew Troy was just taking a moment to relax. She loved

those brief seconds were she could just be and not worry about every little thing going on around

    her.

Beep! Lauren and Troys pagers went off in unison. Troy looked up, Autopsy room?

Yep Lauren replied as the two quickly rushed out of the room, leaving Kyle mid-

    explanation.

This is about Elizabeth Parker right? Age sixty-seven, had her gallbladder removed?

Yes thats her. She died last night. Clara said you had someone contacther lawyer.

No news so far. Troy said as he pushed open the swing doors to the autopsy room.

Dr. Prekop stood by Elizabeth Parkers body with a scalpel in his right had. He was a

short older man. Wrinkles spread out from the corner of his eyes. They were tired eyes, droopy

and weak. Maybe once they had sparkled with the anticipation of tomorrow being better than

    today, but not anymore.

He placed his scalpel on the metal tray and removed his plastic gloves. Guess what I

found. He asked Troy and Lauren.

Troy and Lauren looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders. Troy went to speak,

but Dr. Prekop did not want to hear what he had to say, Nothing! Absolutely nothing was

    actually wrong with her.

Lauren was relieved that she had not made a medical mistake, but she was even more

confused than before. Troys voice indicated that he was just as confused as Lauren, So nothing

was wrong? She was healthy? he asked.

Unless the last tests come back with something. It is fairly unlikely though, we only use

those tests to look for foul play of some sort. But she was a sweet old lady, I suspect that know

one would poison her. Dr. Prekop answered as he shushed the two out the door Ill let you

    know if I find anything.

Later that day Troy wandered down the hallways waiting to be paged. This time of day

was always slow, even in the ICU. Troy knew he should have been catching up on sleep, he had

to work the night shift, but he was distracted. Mrs. Parkers lawyer had called and given Troy

some very interesting information regarding Mrs. Parkers only two living relatives. Lauren and

her father were the only two recorded relatives. Mr. Witting, Laurens father, was very wealthy

and frequently donated to the hospital. He was also related to Mrs. Parker who was his third

cousin. Mrs. Parker was much older than Mr. Witting and they also lived across the country from

each other. Needless to say they did not see each other much. Mrs. Parkers will stated that even

though she had only met Mr. Witting a few times at family reunions, and that she had never met

Lauren, she still felt that the family fortune should be passed on to relatives. Mr. Witting was

independently wealthy. He started a business in the late-70s, a few years before Lauren was born.

The business was an instant success, then when Lauren was about ten her fathers company

merged with Microsoft. Mr. Witting was given a large sum of money and retired at an early age.

Troy then contemplated how to tell Lauren that her late-patient was actually one of her

last relatives on her fathers side. He wondered how upset she would be. If she would pretend

she did not care if she would cry. Troy hated when girls cried. It was not that he found it

annoying, it was just he tended to panic and only make the situation worse with a thoughtless

insensitive comment. Then he came off as a complete jerk, which he detested because he really

was a sweet guy when you got to know him. Troys thoughts switched back to what Laurens

reaction might be, and then his pager went off.

He quickly turned around and ran for the elevator. His finger rapidly punched the down

arrow. Troy stood impatiently tapping his left foot on the ground. The two silver doors slide open

to Troys surprise a member of the hospitals medical board was already in the hospital, most of

board members only stepped foot in the hospital when they had a meeting to go to. Troy folded

his hands and stepped into the elevator. Good evening Mrs. Witting. He said to the board

member. She was Laurens motherand only on the board because of her wealthy generous

    husband.

Hello Doctor. And where are you headed? She said with a smile. She had only met him

once and only knew that he worked with Lauren.

Troy looked at her for a moment then replied, The autopsy room Dr. Prekop has some

test results on a woman who died and we havent found a cause yet.

Mrs. Witting paused then asked Oh what was she here for?

She had her gallbladder removed. Then Laurenput her on the new test drug Paxmox.

    How old wasshe?

    Mid-60s.

Well then she should have been a perfect match for the Paxmox trials. What was this

patients name? she asked slightly surprised. Paxmox had not gotten any bad reports.

Elizabeth Parker, actually she is your husbands third cousin.Small world isnt it?

Yes, a small world. She said quietly as Troy exited the elevator.

Dr. Prekop was standing in the dimly light autopsy room looking over the test results. He

looked up as Troy entered, Is Dr. Witting coming?

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    9/22

No, Laurens off tonight. Troy replied jealously, she got to have a full night of sleep.

Okay then Ill call her down tomorrow and tell her what I found.

Oh dont go through all that trouble. Ill let her know what the outcome was tomorrow.

Troy insisted. So what do the results show?

Dr. Prekop quickly flicked back to the first page on the clipboard, She didnt overdose

on anything, and it wasnt a reaction to the Paxmox. Looks like she just died of unprovoked

SCD. Seems strange that a woman of her age and how healthy she was would suffer from sudden

cardiac death, especially because there was nothing wrong with her heart or circulatory system.

Troy nodded and took the results from Dr. Prekop. He flicked though the pages, as Dr.

Prekop rambled on about how this was one of the most peculiar cases that he has ever worked

on. Troy also found it odd that the patient had no reason to go into cardiac arrest. He also

wondered why none of the nurses had tried CPR. He thought back to who was on call the

previous night; Carla, Lauren, Dr. Dresse, and a few of the other nurses. If someone had gone

into cardiac arrest one of doctors or nurses should have done something. Troy thanked Dr.

Prekop for his time then he went to find Carla. Carla would know what happened. She knew

everything that went on in the hospital.

As Troy headed to the elevator he checked his watch, 2:18 am. His shift had ended

eighteen minutes ago. That meant Carla would be long gone. Once again he boarded the now

empty elevator. He decided that he should go home and sleep for a few hours. With Carla gone

he could not make any progress in figuring out why Mrs. Parker died. They would all be back in

the hospital by 9:00 am he could start questioning then.

Lauren arrived at Auberry Memorial Hospital around six in the morning. She went into

the locker room and put her scrubs on. It was a cool morning; the summer was dwindling away

with fall on the horizon. Lauren was unaffected by the chilly temperature. She was practically

bouncing off the walls, and she was still on her first cup of coffee. She left the locker room and

headed for the autopsy room. She had a feeling that Dr. Prekop would not be there, but he was

known to spend almost twenty-four straight hours in the hospital. She pushed open the two silver

doors and stepped inside. No luck, he had gone home at the end of his shift. Lauren would just

have to ask Troy when he got there.

Lauren retraced her steps to the ICU. She had a lot to get done, and so little time. It

always felt like that in the hospital. Things could go wrong almost instantly. Then hours of

testing, diagnosing, and treating went down the drain. Lauren loved being a doctor, being able to

help people, and to be able to make a difference in their lives. She just found it hard to lose her

patients. She always felt that there was something that she should have done to save them, but by

    then it was too late.

She turned into Mr. Gammelis room. He had gotten coronary bypass surgery the day

before. He was already awake and eating breakfast. Laurens stomach grumbled she had only

eaten two bites of her breakfast. Good morning Mr. Gammeli. How are you feeling today? she

    asked.

Well I have been better, but Ive been worse too. Was a little nauseas last night, but the

pretty nurse gave me something for it. He said with a slight smile.

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    11/22

Ok. I have some good news. The coronary bypass was one hundred percent successful.

The blockage in your artery was completely removed and yourehealing quite well.

So when am I getting out of this place? The food is just awful.

You should be free to go in a few days, three tops. I promise. Lauren said with a smile.

She patted his arm and turned to leave. As she left to find something to eat in the cafeteria, Troy

poked his head in the door.

I have something to tell you Troys voice trailed off as Samantha strutted by barley

acknowledging her daughter and yet she managed to glance in Troys direction. The look was

not a friendly one, Troy wished he had not looked up when she passed.

Lauren just rolled her eyes at her mother. You were saying? What did Dr. Prekop find?

    Anything? she asked anxiously.

Follow me. He said quietly. It was if a dark silence drifted over the corridor after

Samantha had passed. Troy could not help but feel that someone was listening. He also was not

    sure how Lauren would react.

The two slowly drifted down the hall. Lauren was fighting back the urge to pester Troy

with questions. She was also worried, Troy was never quiet and he was using his this-is-serious-

voice, which she despised. The serious voice always leads to bad things and she knew it. They

entered the doctors lounge. Troy looked around to see who was there. No one, the room was

empty and cold. They two sat a rectangular oak table.

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    12/22

Lauren leaned across the table and whispered What exactly did you find? And why are

    we like sneaking around.

We are not sneaking around. He said as he poked her back to her side of the table. Its

just that I do not think we should discuss Mrs. Parkers unexplained death in public. I already got

a weird look from someone when I mentioned her.

Who? Lauren asked. She was excited and confused. Mrs. Parker was just a little old

lady who had her gallbladder removed. Of course then she died and no one could find a probable

    cause as to why.

Your mom. Troy said, But that is beside the point. Any way your mom has never

really liked me. The weird thing is who Elizabeth Parkers only living relatives are. The only

two people she listed in her will were Steven Witting and Lauren Witting. You and your dad!

Lauren sat in shock. She sat contemplating for a moment then said Was she my

fathers third cousin? I remembering him mentioning a cousin named Elizabeth. Also I think my

grandmothers brother-in-law was a Parker. She paused for a long time. My dad had like

twenty cousins, I would have never suspected Mrs. Parker to be one of them do you think she

knew who I was? she asked.

I do not know. Do you think your mom would have known her? I did mention that Mrs.

Parker was related to your father, but she did not seem to care. Troy asked.

I I have no idea. She might, but for the last few months my parents have not been

getting along. Tonight after work I will go over my parents house and ask. She said, Im sure

    my father will know something.

The rest of the day seemed to drag on. Lauren felt like a thick fog had settled in her brain.

She could not do anything right. Luckily Clara was there helping her do everything.

Finally Laurens shift ended. The sun had just set as she marched out of Auberry

Memorial Hospital. She went for her car. She was so focused on asking her parents about her

recently deceased relative she did not even notice the magazine stuffed in her muffler. She

lowered herself in the leather seat and turned the key. The car responded with a lower Grrr

sound. Oh come on! she yelled at the car as she smacked the steering wheel.

Lauren clambered out of the car as Clara drove by. She slowed down and rolled down

her window to offer Lauren a ride. Lauren accepted.

So where am I taking you? Clara asked as Lauren opened the car door.

My parents apartment its on North Shore Lane. By the new Italian restaurant that you

need a reservation to get into, or you end up standing in line for seven hours.

Ok. Clara said as their car turned out of the hospital parking lot.

They road in silence. Until Clara asked a question, So what happened to that Elizabeth

Parker case, did they find out who killed her?

No and Clara no one ever mentioned suspecting murder. Lauren said, a little surprised

that Clara would jump to such conclusions.

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    14/22

Oh of course I knew that. Clara said. Lauren thought she sounded nervous, but Clara

was the one who had brought up Mrs. Parker not her.

Claras car slowed to a stop outside the fancy new Italian restaurant that you needed a

reservation to get into. Lauren thanked Clara for the ride as she collected her things and climbed

out of the car. As her feet touched the ground and the car door closed she heard something

    smash.

Lauren spun around her eyes scanned the dark ground for something. She found a

smashed vile. It must have fallen out of Claras car. She said to herself as she reached for the

    label.

Succinylcholine. she read allowed to herself. Succinylcholine was a skeletal muscle

relaxant used by surgeons. Why would Clara, a nurse, have an empty bottle of succinylcholine in

her car? She decided to figure out why a vile of succinylcholine was in Claras car later; right

now she needed to focus on what her parents knew about Elizabeth Parker.

She used her key to unlock the door and headed for the third floor. She wondered into her

parents apartment and heard noises coming from the bathroom. As she crept she recognized her

mothers voice and then another voice that was familiar, but she could not figure out who it was.

She dropped her bag on the table and pocketed the succinylcholine label.

She turned around to see the bathroom door knob twist and open with a click. Dr. Dresse

stepped out in Mr. Wittings robe. Laurens eyes widened and her mouth hung open. There had

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

been rumors that Dr. Dresse had a new mistress, but she never thought that her mother would be

    involved with him.

Dr. Witting I honey please come out here. Dr. Dresse said when he saw Lauren in

    the salon.

What is it? Samantha asked as she stumbled out of the bathroom, wearing only a fuzzy

    blue towel. Oh god.

Yeah you should be worried. Mom what the hell! Why is he here? Where is dad? And

do I even want to know what you two were doing? Lauren screamed at her mother.

Your father and I are getting a divorce. He just does not know yet. She said quietly.

You have got to be kidding me. You are leaving dad, for this old grouch? Lauren asked

    motioning to Dr. Dresse.

Just do not tell your father. He is going through enough right now. One of his cousins

just died. He is with his lawyer right now going through her will. She said trying to convince

Lauren not to squeal on her.

What! He did not even tell me that he was going to go see his lawyer about Mrs.

Parkers will. She said racing out the door, Oh and dont think you are off the hook this

    quick!

To her surprise Lauren found her father at the bottom of the stairs. He looked extremely

happy for someone who had just lost a relative. My cousin, Elizabeth Parker, passed two days

ago. I just finished going over her will. She left both of us a pretty penny. Around $7.5 million

    each I believe. He said.

Lauren stared and said, Thats a lot of money to give to a relative who you have only

met a few times and she had not met me until last week in the hospital.

You were her doctor? How did she die? The lawyer did not know. He asked.

We do not know either. All of the tests came back negative. It was like she just went

into cardiac arrest for no reason. Lauren said shaking her head. One thing she still had not

figured out is why none of the nurses had tried to save her. Clara would have been on call, but

    she never mentioned it.

Oh, well the money clears tomorrow. He said handing her a bank slip. He had the

money wired to Laurens individual account and to her parents joint account.

Lauren watched her father walk up the steps past a man in a hat and a black coat. She

smiled at him and said Good night, Dr. Dresse. Ill see you in the morning at work. Her smile

faded and she followed him out of the building. She found Troy standing outside on the steps.

I thought you could use a ride. Troy said pointing in the direction of his car.

Thanks you will never guess what just happened. She said.

Well I am pretty sure I just saw Dr. Dresse leave the apartment building.

Do you know why he was in my parents apartment building? And why he is happy all

of a sudden? she asked as they got in Troys car.

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    17/22

No why?Troy replied knowing that she would have answered even if he had not asked.

He is sleeping with my mom. My mom said that she is going to leave my dad, but not

yet. I think this all has something to do with Mrs. Parkers death.

It could. What else happened? he asked.

Well apparently Mrs. Parker is related to my father. She also left my father and I over

one million dollars. I am pretty sure that my dad put that money in the joint account. That means

my mom has access to it. she explained.

Do you think your mom is going to take the money and like run away with Dr. Dresse?

    That would be really weird!

No she would not just run away, but if the money is in a joint account then she gets

rights to it. Most of my dads money is locked up and she cannot touch it, even if they are

married. The new money that is in the joint account would be split between my mother and

father if they got a divorce. And I just know that if mom asks for more money she will get it.

    Lauren said.

Do you think Samantha had anything to do with Elizabeths death? he asked.

I do not know! she screamed at the air. Her head hurt, she was tired and wished she

could forget everything that she had just learned. She put her elbows on her lap and rested her

head on her hands. Then she heard a slight crunch coming from her pocket. She reached in a

    pulled out the succinylcholine label.

    What is that? Troy asked.

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    18/22

A label for succinylcholine from a vile I found in Claras car. She replied. Lauren had

almost completely forgotten about the succinylcholine bottle.

I think I know what happened. Troy said.

Troy explained his theory as they drove back to the hospital, Clara dosed Mrs. Parker

with the succinylcholine. The drug would have already been in her bloodstream because it was

used for her surgery only a few hours before. I also believe that succinylcholine is one of few

drugs that cannot be detected, and when given in a high enough dosage it causes cardiac arrest,

in Mrs. Parkers case sudden cardiac arrest.

But why? Lauren asked, Why would she kill a patient?

Your mom is on the board. She has a serious influence on who becomes the new head

nurse. And we all know that Clara is dying to land that job. Troy answered, Your mom wanted

Mrs. Parker dead because as you said before that money would be all that was in the joint

account. So after the transfer clear she would file for divorce take half of the money. Leave your

father for Dr. Dresse and promote Clara.

I hate my mom. She is such a sneaky bitch. Lauren said disgusted that her mother

would have someone killed for money.

Do you think Dr. Dresse knows?

I dont know. I have a question, why are we going back to the hospital?

  • 8/4/2019 Creative Writing Final Essay

    19/22

We are going to alert the authorities when we get there and find Clara. He explained,

We can deal with Samantha later, she isnt going anywhere right now.

Oh cool. Lauren answered slightly relieved that this was all going to be over soon.

She was shocked to the point where nothing fazed her.

Troy and Lauren arrived at the hospital to find three police cars all light up in front of

Auberry Memorial Hospital. Troy slowly parked the car. The two went to clamber out when they

were met by the tapping of metal against glass. One of the officers was taping his flash light on

Troys window. He shined the blindingly bright light into their eyes then grabbed his walkie-

    talkie.

I found them! Get out here. He screamed at the small plastic box. Within seconds his

back up was there. They opened the doors and hauled Troy and Lauren out of the car.

Cold silver hand cuffs were placed on their wrists. Lauren went to protest, but the police

officer cut her off, Any thing you say can and will be used against youLaurens ears

stopped working. Everything seemed to slow down. The walk to the cop car seemed to last a life

time. The whirling lights turned into blurs of color. She could only hear the deafening sound of

the sirens. Troy had a similar experience, until they reached the backseat of the dirty white police

cruiser, then everything came rushing back.

Troy and Lauren where brought to the police station for questioning. Clara had called the

police before Troy and Lauren had gotten back to the hospital. She explained to the police that

Troy had killed Mrs. Parker with succinylcholine, and used the same explanation as to why this

would make the perfect poison that Troy had used in his explanation to Lauren. Clara claimed

that Lauren wanted the money from Mrs. Parkers will and that Lauren and Troy had planned to

run away together. The police had found a syringe in Laurens car that had recently been used

and contained traces of succinylcholine in it. Troy had also been on call the night Elizabeth

Parker had gone into cardiac arrest.

Lauren wished that she the empty vile of succinylcholine from Claras car had not

smashed. Then she would have something, anything to show the police as evidence; evidence

that she and Troy were not killers. They were allowed one phone call each. Lauren went first.

    She called her mom.

    Hi, mom. Im in jail.

    What? Samantha said in disbelief.

Cut the crap. I here because of you. Clara managed to frame Troy and I for Mrs.

Parkers death. She said. Then her voice lowered, I know you had something to do with this.

And now I am asking for you help. You need to fix this.

Ok. Samantha said softly and then she hung up the phone.

Samantha marched across the hospital parking lot towards the main entrance. It was

almost mid-night, and the only street light seemed to flicker in rhythm to her footsteps. As

Samantha started up the concrete stairs, Clara pranced out of the hospital. Samantha lunged

forward. She pins Clara with her arm against the wall.

My daughter! You tried to blame this whole mess on my Lauren! she screamed into

Claras face. The veins in Samanthas neck started to bulge with rage. Well!

Its not my fault. You are the one who had this all figured out. Except you seemed to

forget that your nosey little kid would start poking her nose around for answers. That bimbo was

so close to finding out what happened, good thing she was too stupid to piece it all together

before I framed her. I placed the syringe I used to inject the succinylcholine into Mrs. Park in

Laurens car. Stupid bitch never saw it coming. Clara answered with a slight smirk.

You are going to regret that. Samantha said as she turned to walk away.

Oh you think Clara was interrupted by Samanthas knuckles. Samantha had whipped

her whole body around to have her fist smash right into Claras jaw bone, sending Claras head

back into the concrete wall. She crumpled and Samantha walked away.

Around two in the morning a police officer unlocked the cell and allowed Lauren and

    Troy to leave.

Why are we being freed all of a sudden? Lauren asked the officer as they made their

    way past the front desk.

Her. He replied pointing at a woman sitting in a chair with handcuffs on. She looked

defeated and all banged up even though she had no bruises. She looked up when she heard

Lauren speak. She smile and nodded. She turned herself in said you two did not have anything

    to do with it.

Thanks mom. Lauren whispered to herself.
