III. HORIZON FOUNDATION REPORT Foundation President, Gary Griffin introduced Dilman Thomas as the new Horizon Foundation fundraiser that started late January of 2018. He thanked the IDA again for their support of the new position. Griffin reported that since Thomas’ start in January, he had raised $304,875.00 to date, which already exceeds the contributions and funding from 2017. Griffin also noted that the Foundation had entered into a contract in early January with an accounting firm to provide Foundation accounting services. Griffin introduced Sharon Brotherton of ShaBro Alternative Office Solutions as the new Foundation accountant.
IV. KEYNOTE SPEAKER
The Florida Housing Coalition Report was completed at the request of the Lee
County Attainable Housing Steering Committee. The committee is a collective
action work group made up of volunteers in the business, non-profit and
government communities, whose goal is to increase the amount of housing
available to Lee County’s workforce. The report was paid for in part by the Horizon
Foundation.
Horizon Council Chair Davis introduced speaker Benjamin Toro-Spears, Technical Advisor, Florida Housing Coalition, as the keynote speaker. A copy of the Lee County Attainable Housing report is available upon request.
V. VOTING MEMBER INPUT
Scott Gregory invited the group to attend the 24th Annual Southwest Florida Blue Chip Community Awards program on Thursday, November 1, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point. This is a Horizon Council endorsed program that recognizes small businesses that have overcome adversity to achieve success. There will be no invitations sent this year, look up eventbrite.com and search for Blue Chip to register. Griffin directed the group to look at the back of their agenda packets to see the award categories for the 2018 Industry Appreciation Awards held October 4, 2018. He challenged the group to think of businesses that would qualify for one of the awards and forward the business an application to fill out.
