Personal Technology Plan

My vision is to create an enriching classroom environment that integrates technology in a way that strengthens the curriculum and supports meaningful, engaged learning to all students.

My vision is to create technology literate citizens who are inspired and engaged in learning, creativity, and innovation.

My vision involves six priorities. The priorities are: resources, funding, professional growth, digital citizenship, student learning and digital learning experiences and assessments.

My Vision for Technology in Education

My vision is aligned with the national, state, and district technology standards.

My vision involves support from colleagues, administrators, district members, parents, and community members.

My vision will motivate and challenge me to reach high standards and expectations so that I can best educate my students for years to come.

My Vision for Technology in Education

Principal: - Discuss School Improvement Plan- Work together to develop a School Technology Plan- Volunteer to represent our school at professional development opportunities

Technology Support:- We have a computer teacher at our school who is knowledgeable and helpful

when troubleshooting

Colleagues:- Collaborate with a group of colleagues to discuss new technologies, new

ideas, successes & struggles when teaching- Support and challenge one another to improve our teaching with technology

District: - Use District Technology Plan & Goals to guide my technology goals- Use District personnel to help achieve the technical support needed to meet

their standards

My goal is to have at least 1 laptop for every 2 students in my classroom. It would be ideal to have a laptop for each student but it will depend on the funding. I also would like to purchase a Student Response System where students have interactive touch pads. I think this would increase students’ engagement and give them more opportunity to interact in class discussions and projects.

I feel that I need to take more of an aggressive approach to find funding. I have found different websites to start my search but will continue to ask administrators and colleagues for advice on the best avenues to research.

My Use of Technology in Education

http://teacherweb.com/CA/Webster/Maccani My class website is an excellent source of information for

students and parents. On the class website, you can find:

- Information about the teacher- Back to School Night information- Homework for the week- Spelling Lists- Monday Letter- Volunteer & Class Schedule- Links to relevant websites- Class Blog- Field Trips- Important Information that is password protected

Class Website

I communicate with parents on a regular basis through email. I set up a “3rd Grade Class” group so parents can communicate with me as well as with all the parents in the class. I email to communicate:

- Reminders- Sign ups for class parties/field trips- Positive notes about a child’s day- Announcements- Asking for help or volunteers for certain

projects- To share fun or exciting learning activities

Email

WebQuests are an excellent resource to use in the classroom. These teacher created learning activities promote collaboration, inquiry, and synthesizing skills. Students apply their learning to the real world.

I created a WebQuest called, “We Want You! Searching for Exceptional Citizens.” The WebQuest is correlated to our 3rd grade social studies standards and my students will complete this WebQuest in the spring. https://www.msu.edu/~blaesser/webquest/introduction.html

WebQuests

I find these to be very helpful resources when trying to explain or illustrate abstract or complex concepts. I also use them to introduce a new topic or to review concepts that have been taught. A lot of the videos are tied to state standards and really aide in student understanding.

Videos I use:- Social Studies related topics: Native Americans,

Citizenship, Government, & Mapping- Science related topics: Solar System, Light,

States of Matter, & Plants and Animals

United Streaming & TeacherTube

I use my SMARTBoard on a daily basis for a variety of activities & lessons:

- DOL & DA: Daily language and analogies are projected on the SMARTBoard. Students are called to the board to correct the sentences and answer the analogies.

- Problem of the Day: Download the problem of the day that correlates with the lesson that we are learning on that particular day. EnVision Math Series has all of the content available on their website

- Grammar Games: Using the 2.0 Toolkit, I incorporate interactive games for students to work on based on concepts we are learning in class

- Modeling: spelling strategies, writing mechanics, math problems, etc.

- Music: play music through the SMARTBoard during Writer’s Workshop

SMARTBoard Software

I would like to learn more ways to incorporate the Elmo into my teaching.

Currently, I use the Elmo to display student work. Students are eager to come up to the front of the classroom to display their work on the SMARTBoard. Its amazing to see how much the students learn from each other through listening to one another’s explanations and thought processes.

This tool is one that I would like to use more consistently throughout the year.

Skype is a great resource for distant learning.

- Pen Pals in Chicago: we have the opportunity to speak to them through the computer a few times a year

- I would like to use it to contact authors or experts related to the concepts we are learning in class

Skype

1 laptop for every 2 students Clear technology goals for the students to achieve throughout the

year Organize resources I have accumulated into a coherent

document/webpage so that I can easily access the information Collaborate with computer teacher & colleagues Incorporate more distant learning Continue with professional development opportunities Incorporate Student Response System Use of more Instructional Software:TutorialsDrill and PracticeDiscovery/Exploratory Environments/Problem SolvingSimulationsEducational Games

Understanding of how to successfully use the Student Response Program

Become more proficient and confident in SMARTBoard Notebook Software

Become more knowledgeable with copyright laws and regulations

Increase my repertoire of technology resources

Become proficient in using Podcasts, Excel, Google Applications, and Dreamweaver

Stay up to date with new research and technologies

Skills & Learning I Need to Acquire

January 2010- Present my Personal Technology Plan to my principal and colleagues. Form a group of interested teachers to join me in implementing the plan into our classrooms

Spring 2010- Apply for grants and brainstorm with my principal ways to find alternative ways for funding my technology goals for the classroom
